Texas Scramble

Social News-
Dickie wants to do another 'Pie-Night' on Thursday September 12th - so watch NB for News.
As usual we'll try to keep you entertained,

Captain is starting to Plan his Annual Dinner, booked for Friday November 1st. It will take place in the Horizons Suite and could hold 80 People. With 160 Members, plus Partners we could easily well exceed these numbers - so maybe even use the Marquee with the new built-in heating system. It will be a 'Black-Tie event and requests for some 'Entertainment' from the Ladies are being considered so ideas welcome. For our newer members it is the highlight of the Captain & his Lady's Year where we thank them for their work and of course present a huge cheque to the Blind Dog Charity. Please mark it up in your Diaries and give it your full support.
The proposed Menu looks excellent and costs will be circa £25 per head.

Committee Meeting Update.
Mainly about the Open, but as usual in AOB several Members had items they had been requested to raise by Membership.

  • Payout in Qualifiers. Last week was an example where there were 56 Entries and split into 3 Divisions , low middle & high on Club Computer.

20 Div 1, 26 Div 2, 10 Div 3. This is all pre-determined so will never be exactly equal.

Due to 'Obsevations' from Members we have decided to adopt the system used by the Club to apportion Winnings as below:-

So in this case, Div 1 & 2 would have had 3 Prizes, Div 3 just 2

  • Roll-Up - 3 Ball Stableford, all to Count Entry on Computer:
Concern was expressed that we were running 2 Comps in One, Individual AND Team where Members could assist each other during the game ( line of putt etc). This format will now be changed to a 'Blind Draw' - so that the Three-Ball  you play in will not be the Team you are a member of.  After the Comp, a separate draw will be made to select each Team of 3 and then add up the Scores.
So Earlies & Late, for example,  will all be mixed up.

  • Cancellation of Seniors Championship - Now re-scheduled for September 11th.
Again, raised by Membership via the Committee. Why was this cancelled on the Day, when in fact there was little rain and no lightening etc
Captain explained the mechanics as he arrived before 07:30 to assess the situation with the Pro Shop. He had been informed that they had received many cancellations over the phone and more came in as he stood in the shop. The Start List was thus rendered useless right from the get-go.
The forecast was for rain, high winds and lightening and 'Severe' Weather warnings were in place from respected organisations.
The decision was made to postpone and was publicised on the Club Website and the Blog by 07:35 to avoid those that travel from quite long distances making the journey.

This was not taken lightly as we have a reputation for playing in just about any conditions, but when you are the Man in Charge, sending people out on a Golf Course with these warnings in place is a different matter - We are sure 'Past Captains' will empathise.

The Captain apologised to those Members that had arrived and made personal arrangements , switched Shifts etc - and he had  support from 89% of the Committee in his actions.

Thanks to late Roll-Up for allowing the Committee to go out first, which was done using the 08:50- to 09:10 slots and barely affected the Roll-Up although there were 'mutterings' as those that thought they were drawn out first saw these 3 groups ahead of them ( despite it being announced by the Captain).
I'll give you a flipping 8-hour Scramble !

The Committee were thus able to commence the Meeting by 13:15 but did not get away much before 15:00. Had we done a normal draw it would have been closer to 16:30 so try explaining that to your good Lady why you were Golfing for 8 Hours !

The Notes above are solely the words of JKP and not the official minutes of the Committee and apologies if it has been misrepresented in any way.

Roll-Up
5 Drives min handicap 1/6th Combined.
Three Man Texas Scramble today with. nineteen teams competing.
Thank you to Jerry Stephens for holding back from the early group to join the 09:00 players rather than playing an individual rolling stableford.

For the record he was in shortly after 12:15hrs and was no later finishing than usual.

Can other early birds please take note for future reference and pretend we are all one section?

Chris Rudling did draw the short straw and scored a creditable 36 points in Augusts rolling stableford to set the target.

The weather was kind with only one sharp shower and it was noticeable that the

course has benefited from recent rain.

Full results and the winning amounts are listed below and congratulations to Rod Stevens, Mick Aldridge and Ken Trott for their nett score of 58.67.

Nice to see different faces in the winners enclosure.

Very busy as Captain pushes out Committee first to enable Seniors Open planning Meeting...Don't forget just 3 weeks away now ( 4th Sept) - so start planning your Team of 3 for the Texas Scramble - we have some 27 Visiting Teams already.

Couldn't resist a Pic of the Captain and the uncertain weather.

It's a bit crazy at the moment and we certainly had plenty of Lightening Sunday

Smiling Phil back again and as usual smiling.
