Winter League 2021

Round 3 Wednesday 8th December

Revised Guidance due to the Covid Outbreak.

I have been asked to run the event for this year. Since we have very little time until the 1st round due in two days time, we are moving the event to Friday 5th.

In order to minimise the amount of time it takes to organise predefined tee times and other having to roll up after the Winter League teams, It is decided that Winter league is run as a roll up event and since it is a 4BBB format, everyone can join in and treat it as such.

This way we are only running one competition on the day rather than two. The highest scores on the day will win the day’s prizes. Those who have registered for the league will have their scores entered on to the league table. The best 5 out of the 7 rounds will count and the team with the highest score will be the champions.

This is how the rollup will be organised:

Teams will decide amongst themselves which two will be playing as a team on the day. On arrival we will take our cards out as we do for the rollups with a slight difference. Only one card from the 2 members of the teams playing on the day will go in the pack and the other put aside for the pairing purposes. If a 3rd member of the team is also playing on the day, his card will go in as a normal rollup member. Cards shuffled and drawn out. If a card drawn is a member of the Winter League team, his playing partner will be the next member of the group of 4 and will be going out with the other 2 drawn names.

It has been suggested that we should have some flexibility within the system because of Covid. As we know we have had a number of positive cases and it is likely that this trend will continue as we enter the winter months. It is going to be likely that a number of people will be self-isolating during these periods. It is therefore possible for  a team that have only one member available on the day, to have a random partner to make it a proper 4BBB. This is proposed for this year only and a proper discussion will take place to look at the format of this competition for the years ahead.

Regards

James

As round 1 was a mix of WL & Non-Winter League, please update James Siabi on your Team members if any of the above is not correct..also still time to join the league, you've only missed one round and everyone has to discard 2 scores at the end if you've played all 7 rounds.

Winter League 2019 / 2020

The Final  now Friday 21st  February

Imagine the scene if Stuart gets called for his Operation, Alan is trapped by flood water and Martin sleeps-in -  Peter SF just needs 45 to catch them, or how about Mr Mugridge with a 47, James with 50 or Neil with 51 - excitement will be at fever fitch ; Billy Hilson has been on the phone and calculated they only need 57 !

Latest Table, with 1 Rounds to play..but 2 scores to discard.
Beware Team in 15th place...with a Zero now to drop.

As usual, we'd like to keep to the original plan of the Winter League, which is to always drop at least 1 counting score. This may mean it will be just the best 5 from 6 etc if lost rounds are not re-played.
Without this element, the Final result cannot have that exciting last round where a low score amongst the leading teams can significantly affect the final result.

Captain James Siabi has worked very hard to organise the playing order for each scheduled day as below, ensuring a really good mix of personnel.

It's here again and don't you just love it. All you have to do is put your name on the List to enter a Team of 3, where on a given Roll-Up any 2 of you can register a score for your total and the other will play a 4BBB with others that Roll Up. No minimum playing requirement, so it doesn't matter if you never play for your team.
Bona-Fide Teams will always get PRIORITY on the dates below so why not get your name on the list below.
Remember it is Winter, dates will change, rounds will be cancelled and re-scheduled  so no moaning please, consider yourself one of the fortunate as not everyone can play in sub-zero temperatures , biting winds and snow as we invariably do !

Round 7 and the last of this years Winter League Competition, and what a splendid morning to be playing golf , after the frost disappeared it was just like summer with  a clear blue sky and bright sunshine and the course in good condition for this time of year. So the scene was set for a  highly competitive final round. The biggest movers  were John Evans, Alan Chance + S Pope. Who with 46 points were the winners on the day,and by bettering there lowest  score by 10 points moved them up the   leader board to joint second place in the overall competition alongside  Roger Hinds                Ian Housham , Peter Spencer Farr ,  + Richard Holmes, Richard Hall. Dave Mugridge with all three teams finishing on 168 points. But our congratulations must go to George Wallace     Ian Griffiths  Roger Davis, who by one extra point (169pts) are this years Winter League winners. So well done and many thanks to all who took part.( and we never played on a winter green all the way through.)
