Thurs 19th - Closed again after heavy rain overnight.
Sir Clive has asked us to post a few words that he spoke at Dickie Hall's Funeral - telling the Family how much he meant to us up at the Golf Club.
John, for those Seniors who missed it and want to donate
towards the juniors section of the cricket club let me know and I’ll collect it
and forward any donations.
It’s the least we
can do considering the amount Dickie must have raised for the Seniors charity
over the years.
My eulogy ( Sam
and Maia ) are two of their grandchildren. Happy for you to post it .
Well done Sam and Maia
He will always be Dickie to us, Jenny always called him Richard and the grandchildren? “Dickie doughnut”.
Today we are here to honour a dear friend, a loyal club member and a man whose quiet strength left a lasting mark on all of us. He faced his illness with remarkable stoicism. Not once did he complain, and not once did he allow his own challenges to overshadow his kindness or his commitment to others. That was simply who Dickie was.
His generosity was woven into the fabric of our club. Month after month, Dickie ran the golf club raffle, Jenny and Nikki would make up a fantastic food hamper for the annual Charity golf tournament. Over the years, raising thousands of pounds for good causes. It wasn’t just about the money—it was about bringing people together, creating a bit of fun, and doing something meaningful for the community.
And speaking of fun, he was never one to shy away from a bit of fancy dress. Charity golf days were his stage and he embraced them with enthusiasm and humour.
I like to think I only managed to outdo him once—when I turned up as “Pikey” from Dad’s Army. He took it in good spirit, of course, because he loved seeing people laugh.
He had one last
milestone he was determined to reach; his granddaughter Alice’s wedding this
coming October. Although he won’t be
there in person, there’s no doubt he’ll be there in spirit—proud, smiling, and
watching over the family he adored.

Apologies to anyone who stayed away due to the somewhat erroneous weather prediction on the Blog, It did rain, but not until about 45 seconds after the last group was in the 19th.
Biting Northerly wind and a light drizzle at the start allowed 6 groups to venture out - expecting the worst !
Messrs Dennett; Hilson; Evans & Heath just played 11 Holes whilst Laughing Jim played Pool and Long Tall Rob gallantly pulled out of the roll up and walked around with Group 4.
Chris & James were absent due to Hospital appointments.
apol for missing James from attendees at Dickie Hall's wake,.
Nice to see a memorial in paper from Christine Curtis, who never fails to remember Martin Curtis who we lost 13 Years ago.
Barrie Heath tells us he bumped into Bob Rees who says he is probably not returning to Golf after recent problems with Sciatica and a Hernia.
Bob said "I enjoyed my time with the Seniors, but I just can't risk being drawn out with Big Chris again ."

The Buggy Ban, despite being annoying, was probably correct as the course was very slippy in places as it was like walking on wet clay in some places.
To Jeremy, however, a veteran of 1000 Point-to-point races in boggy going - it felt like home as he eagled the 10th with the only 2 of the day and Birdied the 17th on a bumpy temporary green. Sometimes, you just have to doff your cap and say "well played".

Brrrr but beautiful...following a meeting with their bank managers, Martin & Mike switch to earlies who scoop 94% of the £48 kitty as Dennett & co wrestle a quid each.
Wednesdays comp will be a 2 from 3 Stableford not an individual stableford
