Individual Medalford
Another busy day and we managed to mop up some of the outstanding Summer Knockout Fixtures, leaving just 2 to finish...
Bryan Frost walked out with Ian Fielder - both 22 Handicappers and so it proved out on the course. Ian played well, but Bryan just kept saying 'I won that hole' and Ian had take his word for it !....Ian fought back and they were all square on the 18th, then 19th and finally Bryan managed a Par on the 2nd extra Hole to see him through to the next round.
The 2nd game was a different story as the long awaited clash between giant slayer Ian Frost and Dave Mugridge, a legend in his own mind, teed off. 6 Handicapper Dave had to give Ian 23 Shots !!!!
Dave started very well, however, with 2 Birdies in the first 5 holes to keep things under control. Ian fought back well and limited the damage from getting any worse . It all ended on the 14th into a strong wind, when Dave's distance proved too much and the margin was 5-holes down, but alas with a mere 4 holes to play.
Game 3 was hard to call as Robin Flower (20) lined up with the sun burned Martin Leigh, who with recent cuts was down to 13 and had to give Robin a 7-shot start. Nip and Tuck it was as there was never much between them. Only 3 'Oh Robins' were heard all day which meant he was playing well. They stayed level though 16 & 17 and stood on the 18th Tee on a level playing field and equal handicaps. 2 good shots down the middle and approach shots short of the green. Martin went first all pulled it a little left, but on the green. Robin was short but straight, so it was all down to the 4th shot. Martin felt he was in prime position as he glanced to admire his Ecco Men's Biom Hybrid Hydromax Golf Shoes - when a glint of white caught his eye as Robin's Chip headed for the pin and dropped. In typical Matchplay he now had a 12 foot putt to save the day, but missed and Robin strode over and shook his hand , tilted back his head and strode off to report his impressive Victory.
In the Roll Up......
In the Roll Up......
Great turnout today with Seniors hoping to get a golf game in before
the expected inclement weather and we were rewarded by a dry and warm morning.
There were 45 entries for the medalford competition. The first nine was medal
with the second nine stableford, subtracting one from the other to obtain the
overall score. It was expressed that stableford could have been played first
allowing players to warm up before facing the medal section. Maybe so and along
with other disliked formats such as the 'yellow ball' competition I propose we
have a review of the roll up program at committee level to discuss amendments
for next year.
Please see the attached leaderboard to see how everybody fared.
There were 11 individual birdies which paid a healthy sum of £2.15 each.
Congratulations to Gordon Brent winning with a solid card and recording birdies
on holes four and five along the way.
