Match Report Away v Wheathill Golf Club 4th April 2019.

Mucky day as we travelled to Wheathill but apart from a very sharp downpour, midway, we were able to complete our match without too much trouble.
Wheathill are experiencing difficulties because they have recently lost both green keepers
and their professional. We should be pleased that our home course is far more advanced coming into the spring and summer playing season.
As usual among like minded golfers the welcome and general ambiance were excellent and we look forward to our return home match in May.
Unfortunately we lost again, that's three in a row, but we are yet to play a home game and
we are putting up a reasonable showing. Playing away games are notoriously biased against the away side.

Peter Spencer-Farr/ Ian Griffiths  Lost 4 & 3
Martin Bargery/ Mark Cording      Won 3 & 2
Roger Davis/ John Twose             Won 2 & 1
Roger Stone/ Mike Hill                  Lost 1 Down
Stuart Pope/ James Siabi             Lost 5 & 3
John Pearce/ John MacOmish      Lost 4 & 3
                         Match Lost 4 to 2.

Peter Spencer-Farr Capt.

..back at Cricket we heard the sad news of Jenny Hall being in Hospital with a blood-clot on her lungs after surgery and being pretty poorly according to Dickie.Typical Jenny she had ordered Dickie to go and play golf. He had just reached the 3rd hole when the phone rang and farmer Bob overheard Dickie being told that Jenny had slipped into unconsciousness...Dickie then began to explain to the Nurse that he was playing golf, but it was only 9-holes and he could be there after lunch...when Bob & Barrie shouted in unison "Dickie for God's sake GOOOOOOOO" - and sent him off to the Hospital without playing another shot.

We were not exactly alone as the late roll-up began to gather. The Eggs were out in force, ahead of their 'Big Breakfast' and celebrating Mike Banfield's 75th Birthday.

..with Nobby attempting a photo-bomb...and everyone awaiting the arrival of Stuart Pope so they could eat...

I have now being away for 6 weeks with temperatures into the middle 30's -upon my return next week end I promise to bring some California warmth and sunshine back home -somehow I have missed you all and the perseverance of playing in those atrocious weather conditions -you all have my respect -Edmondo

Buggies were banned and most Bunkers were washed out, so we devised a cunning plan to play 2 9-hole competitions , with 3-ball Texas Scrambles, so that those that could only make 9-holes could participate, and if the weather held the rest of us would complete 18 holes.  In the event, Dickie-Hall leaving early, the rain coming in and other factors meant that we ignored all the complex complications and just paid out Mark , Mike & Ken for having the best looking card, with a  Gross 36.

Mike's attempt to sabotage the picture failed as you can see....

By the time we walked up the 18th, we all decided 9 holes was enough as Roger led his Team to a dubious 2nd place
