Stepping down as Vice Captain
Dear Seniors
I spoke to Peter on Friday regarding the above matter and both
agreed it would only be right if I informed everyone of my decision to step down as Vice Captain.
The decision I made was not taken lightly as I had enjoyed the
start of my time as Vice and looked forward to the year, and looking ahead , my
year as Captain.
Towards the end of last year I experienced a few health problems
which became the cause of my lack of golf recently and I have struggled to
play.
I felt that I could not fully commit to my duties as Vice,
although Peter assured me that we could get through I felt I would not be
pulling my weight and having to then possibly step down at the start of my
Captaincy for health reasons would not be correct as continuity in the position
would be broken.
This also gives the person who steps into the vice roll a number
of months to watch Peter and be ready for their year as Captain.
As I have said, this decision was difficult to make and I have been
stewing over it for a number of months and both Peter and myself agreed a decision should be made towards the end of March which I
have now done.
I thank all members for their support and kindness accepting me as
their Vice Captain for this year, I hope they will understand my position.

JKP Apologies for this 1st April prank and it was in no way meant to undermine the sadness of the genuine announcement above. Rest assured after my several rollicking's from the Captain I will not repeat this mistake...for another 364 days anyway.

Today's Golfer Says:- REVIEW
What we like: It was simple to use , a doddle to assemble and comes at a very impressive price. We also thought it punched above its weight in the looks department too.

Let's face it, if Ray could operate it, anyone could operate it.
Ray's Knees are saying 'No More Golf' - so can we find it a new home ?
The inaugural playing of the Foursomes Trophy
…..commenced today in
glorious sunshine. Twenty six pairs competed and nearly all the teams
found the format very challenging. Any stableford score around the
par of 36points should be considered a great effort.
The difficulty lies in not being able to get into a playing rhythm, playing from unusual
distances and positions, the pressure of not letting down your partner and also
trying to lag putts rather than being aggressive.
That is my excuse anyway!
In the end it was tight at the top with five pairs separated by
only four points. Well done to Rod Stevens and Stuart Pope who took the spoils
with a score of 38points. Birdies were also at a premium with only eight
returned netting £3.00 per team.

Another fine day and new trophy donated by a member, with Roger tweaking the base.
I paid the price for cheekily writing the names of Cording/Pearce on a piece of paper for engraving..then the Golfing Gods took charge and we came LAST !
Amazed to see Bob Rees and Nick Gabb up at the top, 1 shot from winning....why ?
After a long discussion at the start as to who would drive at each hole, Bob elected for the first, whilst cool hand Nick just puffed away on a roll-up. Bob hit a fine shot down the middle, as Nick casually strolled up.....only to put the 2nd OOB and lost, so back walked Bob and played their 4th and resulted in no score - so finishing with 37 was pretty impressive !
They had another narrow escape as we came round the back of the 13th tee and I shouted BOB as he was mid-swing ..and got a horrible glare....
..but I was just stopping him Teeing off from the Matt, with Bert & Ted sitting comfortably on the bench watching him.
as an aside, we reckoned the penalty for playing off the wrong tee in this format would be a 2-shot penalty, but with Bob retaking the Drive - so playing 3 off the tee..were we correct ?...
..couldn't find the penalty for giving a nasty look to a player trying to help !
Funny to see John Sweet out with the Vice captain, having to play off 24 Handicap - we passed him on 10th where Ian had placed in the L/H Rough, only for John to casually put it back onto the fairway.
Unfortunately the topic of Score cards rose its ugly head as one of the Top Teams came under Bob's scrutiny.
It's a simple game, where Player A takes all Odd Drives and Player B takes all the Even Drives, or Vice-Versa,

So why would you be the only Card to simply write all the Gross Scores down in Column A ?
Plenty of arguments ensued as to what/why/where - but to my simple mind why would you want to do it any other way than write down the score under the appropriate Column, A or B to demonstrate that you complied with the format of Foursomes...alternating the Drives.
It also helps you make sure the correct person is taking the next drive and complies with the method we like in Greensomes, Texas etc
It takes about 17 Seconds, at the end of the Round to compare what you have written down in the Markers Column, ie 5 for 2 - John's Drive etc - and make sure the other team agree on the official card....then you can happily sign it, saying you agree with the score.
