Monday 9TH October
Cyder Cup Singles
Captain & Vice were out first at 08:00 ..but who was to prevail, await report...
The day dawned with mist and a heavy dew at CST. Looking
across to the putting green and the chipping green, it was apparent that
neither had been cut or swished.
The Captain’s Team
had the narrowest lead of 28 points to 26 points over the Vices Team after the
Fourball and the Foursomes, with the Singles to play. The Captain/ Vice Captain
led the way ,and teed off at 0810.
When we reached the Second green, we found the whole of
the ground staff team slitting the green and adding sand to the green to enable
the green during the winter months, to drain more than in previous years. At that stage we found
that greens 6,16,and 17 would also be worked on during the morning, which meant
that we would have to play on temporary greens at those holes.
By the 9th hole the Captain was 6 down to the
Vice , however he did manage to pull some holes back but eventually lost 3 and
2. Must be the Pressure of being the Captain and Vice as neither played
particularly well.
On completion of his round the Captain had a conversation
with the Head Greenkeeper, and was assured that we would be back on all main
greens for our match against Enmore tomorrow, although 4 greens would be a little sandy to putt on.
As the scores came in the slender lead that the Captains
team had originally, gradually increased somewhat , so that by the time the
final few pairs arrived in the clubhouse
the Vice’s team needed more than a
miracle to win the Singles, the result
being larger than would have been expected after the first two rounds.
Singles Result:
Captains Team 28 Points Vice
Captains Team 18 Points.
Final Result for the 2017 Cyder Cup :
Winner
- Captains Team 56
Points
Runner up - Vice Captains Team 44 Points
I believe the is the first time for a few years that the
Captain's team has taken
The Cyder Cup.
It was great to see so many players taking part in this
annual competition. For some it was their first time in playing match play
golf. Thank you all for your participation, hope that you all enjoyed
yourselves.

Some of us had prepared long and hard for our match, in fact I had been threatened with disqualification by Farmer Bob for Intimidation.
It started a few days ago as I reported on the Blog that John Wallis had been cut 8 shots ahead of our Match..of course a hoax.
Then I tried to block his favourite Parking Spot with my car and bollards...
plus more banter in the Bar , but all I achieved was to give him the determination to beat me, which he did 5 & 3...Dratt !
He is a 27 Handicapper that has a half back swing and every shot goes 114 down the middle, so with 8 shots he didn't have to do much to make me work hard to win a hole.
I was up to start with, then began a Run was John's Scores in left Column where he rapidly went to 5 Ahead.
From Hole 5 to Hole 15 Mr Wallis powered ahead.OK, 13,14,15 I screwed, but was losing the will to live by then.
Mind you I felt better when we came in and saw that Bob Holly had a 1 over Par opening 5 holes against Harry Potter, Frank had been slaughtered by George W and Mike & Trevor agreed a half after getting bored with the persistent rain.
