Bowmaker 15th July 2015

There are few better things in life than playing golf with one’s friends on a summer day. Today, however, it was miserable. It was more like a warm November.

We were pleased to welcome a new member, Martyn Putland, who plays off 26Martyn had a gentle introduction to Cricket St Thomas Seniors golf playing with Geoff and Nobby. In addition, Bill Hilson and Brian Anderson played with Bill’s guest, Ron Pickering. Bill scored a stunning birdie on the 13th leaving his tee shot 2 feet from the hole.

Possibly because of the weather and the fact that many of our finest were playing an Age UK match, only 23 members played in the rollup. Andy Beale and Clive Fisk played in the July Rolling Stableford scoring 35 and 29 points respectively. The main competition was a Bowmaker with one to score on the first 6 holes, two on holes 7 to 12 and all three scoring on the last 6 holes.  Three birdies were scored, each worth £3.45 per team.

The usual domestic handicap reductions apply, 2 shots to the winners and 1 shot to the runners up.

Friday’s rollup will be a three man Texas Scramble.
Please note that next Monday’s medal will be from yellow tees. I was hoping that playing on white tees would go some way to satisfying those who have commented that we should be playing more often from white tees. However, I am told that it is not possible to combine scores within the eclectic should we mix competitions from white and yellow tees and as we have started the eclectic on yellow tees, we should continue to do so.
