Bridport v CST

CST suffered their first defeat of the season away at a very breezy Bridport. Players and balls were blown from tees as 50mph winds lashed the cliffs above West Bay making playing conditions almost impossible. Neil Cochran asked for a whip round after golf having lost 10 balls in knee high rough but still managed to half their match with partner Roger Williams.

Match captain John W endured the walk of shame losing 6&4 which would have been much worse if it wasn’t for the valiant endeavours of Jim Lauchlan.

Barrie Heath & Rob Shelley won 2&1

Mark Cording & Dennis Hussey won 4&3

Dave Asquith & Jamie Parkhouse lost 4&2

Martin Leigh & John Baker lost 1 down after been 5 down at the turn to former CST player Tim Ackland. Martin won the bottle of wine for NTP on the infamous 6th hole.

Bridport 3.5 - 2.5 CST

As planned, Bryan Frost's Son- Mark arrived with the Ashes and 13 of us wandered over to Sweet's Copse to scatter his ashes.

Using techniques learned when Chicken Farming, Richard neatly spread the remains around a tree where Bryan spent many a moment knocking his ball back onto the fairway.

The words from a poem used at Bryan's Funeral were read to give the ceremony a little kudos:-

"Life is like a round of Golf" by Criswell Freeman.

Thanks to all those who made the effort to attend, Chris & Rod - who is struggling with a nasty hernia which probably requires surgery.

Thanks to Captain Andy for juggling the Roll-Up to allow the gathering.

Summer Knockout Pairs:-

Gordon Brent & Jeremy Blackburn took care of  Low Handicapper Paul Bennett with Wayne Salter .

Where they meet winners of match above, being played on Friday

The much fancied pairing of John Sweet & Ken Trott, finalists in 1954, came up against the new kids on the block Farmer Bob & Jolly Roger . It was all to play for as they strode up the 15th - but hands were shook on the 16th and Bob & Roger advance to Round 2.

Roll-Up

Numbers varied a little as the rain threatened and Chris G changed the format as numbers changed - but finally agreed to a 3 ball Scramble for the remaining 9. It was soon 10 but James had not read the Blog so was too late for the draw.

ResultsScore

2ndMartin Leigh, Andrew Rowland, John Weir (9)59
3rdDave Edwards, Nicholas Hill, Nick Winterson (12)62

Amazingly close as usual, with Skipper's Eagle 3 on 5th putting them in the driving seat.

The Back 9 decided it as Rob's crafty ball selection allowed a gross 31 to pull level and finish ahead on the mysterious abacus.

5 Handicapper Rob Shelley has no fear of bunker shots as Mike & JKP were quaking at the choice of ball - but a 4 on the 15th was most acceptable.
