All to Count Stableford

News:- Just heard Farmer Bob is in A&E after cracking his head last night. He's OK, but having to undergo a few tests before they set him free. Bob's place in the Dave Mugridge team was snapped up in 73 seconds by Sir Sidney Crisp himself..

X-Ray Report:-

A few bits of baler twine, some chewed hay, insignificant quantity of grey matter and the letters 'DQ' have somehow been engraved all around the inside of the cranium.

Diagnosis / Treatment:- 28 Day bed-rest and avoid reading materials on Golf or Golf handicaps.

Update on farmer Bob - Barrie has spoken to Margaret who says he is still in Hosp awaiting Tests that appear to be dragging their feet...He is sitting up in Bed and has been chatting away merrily on the  phone . He has given the Consultant a warning about not signing the Ward Card correctly and keeping the rest of the guests of Male Surgical amused with stories of his Golfing prowess - well I think that's what Barrie said....

..and this is Mr Barrow - he's from Colyton so don't let him charge anything to his account..cash only...

Again the weather was much better than expected, yet still challenging.   The strength of the wind obviously had a bearing but that excepted, many of the greens were wet and slow but others much drier causing some issues with chipping and putting.

There was some confusion as to whether the new WHS was operative, so the Captain decided to play the competition under our old handicaps.    Given all the recent communication from the Captain, Scrutineer and Committee, about how to fill in scorecards and what information was obligatory, it is very disappointing that there was a disqualification, owing to no handicaps being listed.    For those who are interested it was the team of Messrs. Siabi, Hone & Hunt, who would have been In 3rd Place and in the money.

That left 13 teams in the running but unfortunately Nobby could not make all 18 holes, so it was then down to 12.    The best individual score was 37 by Andrew Rowland and not surprisingly he helped his team to the overall title.

As usual Andrew just rolled up for a game..but luckily took farmer Bob's place who was knackered after 2 games carrying  ( remember Bugy Pictures)....Andrew has been working with Roy and targetting improved handicap before he hits 80....

                             ..bit heavy on 7th...

Course was Long today with many holes on back tees - no team got close to 108 Target Pro Score...

Dear Seniors

I hope you are well and enjoyed the weekend.

After the Government’s latest announcement last night we will unfortunately be forced to close the course and clubhouse as of Thursday 5th November. Hopefully we will be able to reopen on Wednesday 2nd December as mentioned in last night’s speech however we will keep you all updated as the situation progresses. There is some lobbying taking place that golf courses should remain open but currently the guidelines to close are clear.

Our green keeping staff will continue to maintain the course during this period so we are in a position to reopen without additional delays when permitted to do so. The Office will not be manned however we will be reachable via email if you have any questions or queries throughout the period of closure.

Contrary to my previous email, we will no longer be reopening the changing rooms and the main bar and restaurant today, instead we will continue to operate from the Marquee until close on Wednesday.

We have changed our catering hours for this week. The Marquee Bar will be open from 8am – 7pm Monday – Wednesday this week and the Kitchen will be open from 9am – 6pm Monday – Wednesday.

We will of course not be ordering in any additional food or beer so if we run out of a few things please be understanding. To book a table please call 01460 30231 Ext. 4.

It is of course very frustrating to have to close our doors once again especially with our greenkeepers having the course in such good condition. However the safety of the public, our members and our staff will always come first, especially during these difficult and uncertain times.

On behalf of the owners and the club I would like to thank all members for your continued support since we reopened back in May. It has been a great summer/autumn of golf and it has been a pleasure to be a part of it.

Take care, stay safe and look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Kind Regards,

Alex Hill

General Manager
