Wednesday 29th July 2020 Jubilee Salver - Texas Scramble

Wednesday 29th July 2020
Jubilee Salver - Texas Scramble

Friday ( tomorrow) - is another full Roll-Up and hopefully we have plenty of slots available for  both early & late.
Register in Marquee on arrival as per last week for a Canadian Greensomes.
Also need you to book slots again for next Friday for us to use.
Hopefully everyone is playing the game and we don't have anyone playing silly-buggers with  Seniors booking slots for their own use  within our normal times as this becomes extremely disruptive and prevents us getting back to normal.

( Our Plea was wasted once more)

Join us for Coffee & Breakfast to keep the Girls busy and they will gradually allow us to return to normal.

Please keep checking the Club 'Diary' section and sign up for the Events that are appearing almost daily.

Wednesday 29

Reliable sources tell me that as of Monday BUNKERS will be back on play, hence we will adapt this for all Seniors competitions. Rules applied will be: Mark the ball position, flatten the area and then place within 6” of the ball position. NO MORE BUNKER RELIEF

Also in play will be 2’s & Birdies. The published entry fees on the rollup programme includes £0.50 for this purpose. Birdies will be paid for individual comps and 2’s for any team completion.

A lovely day to play golf and 19 teams of 3 turned up for the Silver Salver trophy. Bob is back scrutinising cards again as we should, DQ'ing 3 cards. I know it has been a while we filled in cards, but since we have all been playing for a long time, we should really be able to fill our cards properly. Here are the reasons:

Two cards had gross scores on the Net Score column meaning that the Gross scores were higher than marked scores. You must put the gross scores against each player instead of ticking or putting D on  the player column indicating whose  drive it was and putting gross scores on net column.

One card had signature missing. In all competitions need two signatures. In team events two team members have to sign the card and in singles comps, the player’s as well as the marker’s signature. Luckily none of the 3 cards were in contention for prizes.

Norman Markby, Mark Coleman & Bob Rees with a net score of 57.50 were the winners of this trophy which as far as I am aware was lost last year and I hope a replacement trophy has been purchased to be presented to them at the AGM in November. Well done guys. Runners up with a narrow margin were Jeremy Blackburn, Gordon Brent and Steve Holt followed by Mark Cording, Roger Davis & James Siabi with 2 shots adrift.

The importance of everyone following the rules....

Hello everyone

We have managed to secure some block bookings for August and September. All the missed major competitions that were missed during the lockdown have been fitted into the next two months.

The August programme has just been published on the blog and the September schedule will be published as soon as it is completed.

Here is a summary of events:

Challenge Cup Rounds 1,2 & 3 (Mon 3rd, Wed 12th and Fri 21st August) considered as qualifiers and will be replacing 3 of the weekly qualifiers. One does not have to play all 3 rounds in order to progress to final. Fifteen best performers over 3 rounds will play for the CUP and the rest will be playing for the PLATE.

Super Seniors Cup on Wed 5th August -

Seniors Championship on Fri 14th August

Memorial Trophy on Mon 17th August

Battle of Britain on Monday 24th Aug

Captain's Charity Greensomes on Fri 28th Aug

September summary will be published as soon as it is finalised. Just to let everyone know that we have planned a week long Charity event for mid September open to all club members as well as visitors. We are aiming to raise as much money as possible in the aid of NHS Together charity. your Donations monetary as well as goods for raffles are appreciated.

James Siabi

Seniors Jubilee Salver Scramble
1st Mark Coleman, Norman Markby, Robert Rees 57.5 Rock solid front 9, then 4 Birdies on back 9 set a good score but beatable  on most Texas Days.
2nd Jeremy Blackburn, Gordon Brent, Steve Holt 57.8 Not a blemish on the card and a blistering start, birdying 2,3 &4 - then a 31 back 9 - but giving 4 shots to leaders proved too much.
3rd Mark Cording, Roger Davis, James Siabi 59.8 33 out, 33 back - but needed better than 6 Pars, 13 thro 18 to ascend the leader board with the fire-power they had.
4th Richard Holmes, David Mugridge, John Pearce 60.2 Defending Champions, but bogies on 6 & 17 will never be a gold-watch on this Fairground.
5th Danny Dowell, Rod Stevens, John Wandless 60.3 Hotly tipped, but a 5,3,5 start meant they were always behine with just 4.7 shots to play with
6th Alan Chance, John Evans, Steven Southgate 60.7 Serial Winners this tricky 3-ball, but the modest front 9 left them too much to do, with a valiant 2,3,3 finish
7th Ian Frost, Colin Ireland, Simon Scarborough 61 Plenty of shots but lacked distance with bogies on 8,9,& 10
8th Paul England, Michael Hone, Keith Hunt 61.2 Once again, just too many bogies.
9th Maurice Arnold, Christopher Basterfield, Richard Forster 61.5 One of the better back-9 scores, but too much to do.
10th William Hilson, Ian Housham, Eric Williams 63 Like the Hot Chocolate song…It started with a Six !!!
11th Robert Barrow, Barrie Heath, Roger Stone 63.2 Not their day as 3 Bogies on back 9 wiped out their 3 Birdies.
12th Ian Fielder, Bryan Frost, Roger Hinds 63.8 4 Bogies on back-9 =  certain death...
13th Bob Hollingworth, Iain Rowland, Rod Young 64 Must have known their fate after bogies on 2,3 &4 ..but great to see this threesome back playing again.
14th David Asquith, Neil Cochran, Mark Sanders 64.8 half a dozen bogies…this usually hot trio left too much out there…but they were leaders in the Clubhouse for several minutes.
15th Dickie Hall, Nobby Hodder, Ken Trott 66 Gross 79, so even with their 13shots, the Mathematics were against them.
16th Michael Aldridge, Ted Bryden, Herbert Robinson 70.2 These guys were just warming up for the Super Seniors next week.
17th Derek Gardener, Andrew Rowland, Chris Rudling DQ Oops - we know Bob hates not seeing the Gross score under the Driver …
18th Clive Fisk, Dave Taylor, David Walgrove DQ Nice Birdie on 17th..so they could walk-off with pride.
19th Chris Andrews, Paul Matthews, Richard Redwood DQ Still dripping wet from completeting the Medal on Monday and claiming 'We wuz Robbed'
