Captain Update:-

Using VPAR

There was an argument whether using VPAR was legal to use and that it wasn’t against the rules of golf. I was told by few members using a mobile phone as well as checking your opponents score was not allowed in Amateur golf. VPAR is used quite heavily throughout the world and it couldn’t possibly be illegal as far as I was concerned. To clarify the matter, I sent and email to both Golf England and VPAR. Here is what their response was:

Yes, it is. The R&A have confirmed that the VPAR scoring system does conform to the rules of golf, and further is not contrary to Rule 14-3ggg(Artificial Devices and Unusual Equipment).

Also, presumably if you can see how your opponents are doing then they can also see how you are doing, as by definition they must be entering their scores as well, therefore it is still a level playing field. History has just dictated that the facility wasn't there in amateur golf to know how your opponents were doing, VPAR has changed that.

Now it's been confirmed as OK, I must admit that Frank, Bob & JKP were checking the Leaderboard on Friday to see how we were doing against the captain, Farmer Bob and Jolly Roger. We saw the scores building, 20.30.40 as the game progressed, thinking it was adding all 3 scores . It was only when we got in that James pointed out that the Leaderboard was actually showing the score taking the best from the 3 players - like a 4BBB but a 3BBB - not counting up the total points. We thought Bob must have been doing badly as we were level going up the 18th...only to find ourselves about 20 points behind !!!

Imagine the future, say with the Texas Open in September - we could all be watching the Leaderboard in the Club House as each hole was completed.

Thanks Ray...

Just like the Professional Game.  Certainly adds a new dimension..but no doubt there will be divided opinions...

Hopefully you have got Alex's latest with many more changes, including deferment of Roll-Up, although Tee Booker from 12th onwards seems to have them...

We had 8 Teams for todays event. Just to let all Seniors know that everyone can participate in these events provided we have their email addresses.
I can add them to the app and they don't needto have their mobiles with them.
Only 1 person in each team has to have a mobile phone with GPS to do the scoring. So, anyone interested just drop me a message.
We are going to have our first QUALIFYING competition of the year on Wednesday. It is Individual Stableford. Anyone who wants to participate, please let me know so that you are listed.
I will pass the participants names to the pro shop so that they can take the entry fee from their accounts.
Todays results are listed below.
One team failed to submit their scores.

The plan for this Monday is a 4BBB competition. If you wish to participate let me have your details by Sunday lunch time. Details I need are:
Your name, Tee time and playing partner as well as your email address.
Have a nice weekend.

Need Player for 08:42  and another at 10:02 to complete the 4-Balls. Still plenty of spare slots , 09:38 etc - the more we fill these old Roll-Up days the more likely they are to resume the Allocated slots. They will never be back to normal until the Social part returns as they want us to just turn-up and play without any assemblies.

There was some chatter on the "CB Radio" Yesterday about elitism and Vpar Groups etc - this is not true and all Seniors have the same chance to play, don't need fancy phones etc.
Just phone Clubhouse or send us Email and we will do it all for you. It's just that we cannot collect Score Cards etc as it al adds unnecessary risks.

We cannot relax down here in the South West as we have been identified as a CV19 Hot-Spot at the moment with the R Number above 1.0 - just one incident would cause a major set-back up at the Club.  Unhappy that 'Baldies' have now been identified as high risk, drat !

You couldn't make this stuff up....

Now a handy tip from John Sweet about how to safely  'rescue' an unwelcome house-guest, so please pay very close attention as it's important to get it right.
