We all arrived there on our 707 feet hilltop, unsure if we would be able to play and expecting a very wet front to pass through before midday.
4 Earlies had decided they didn't want to hang around too long so went straight out and played their own game rather than leave one behind to face the wet forecast.
Bit more complicated with the late arrivals as numbers hovering around 20, with Roger D and Norman available if needed. Roger was talked into playing so we had 20 and revised the format to a 4 ball Scramble, 10% handicap and 4 Drives. Most of us were not expecting to get a full 18 holes in. Then as the draw was completed, Bertie asked "Where's my Card ?" - which somehow had not been included, despite him paying his entry. Unfortunately it was too late to start again and apologies to Bert who now had no place to go, so went home.
Most started out with wet weather gear as it was dampish without being heavy rain, which then turned quite dry for the next hour. Chard disappeared from view so we knew it was coming and the mizzle continued for the rest of the round. Wet, but quite playable and not particularly cold if you spent more than £100 on your clothing.
If we ignore the Ireland Team for a moment, which is pretty much what England did on Saturday, then it was very close over the first 9 Holes. Ireland & Co had a 6,3,4,6 Start which pretty much killed them off. Amazing to see they took Colin's Drive on the 4th !
Well done to Roger Davis for his team spirit - having got a call from his Wife saying Texaco had mis-labelled the Diesel / Petrol Pumps - causing her to mix fuelss - he stood by his post to bring his Team home in last place, what a man.
Fair play to Texaco in Chard who took Kate Home, drained the car and delivered it back to them down that deep and dark Tatworth drift - where many fear to tread.....

From a handicap perspective, Farmer Bob & co underperformed on the front 4 holes, with straight Pars - despite 2 long hitters in the team. We all thought Mark had cleared the hedge on the first..but we saw him re-appear to play Dave's Ball.
Terry, Martin, Alan & Nobby started best of all with 2 Birdies in the first 4 holes
The winners, nervous with Roger Hinds hogging the drives a little, had 3 birdies on the front 9 and the last 3 holes took just 8 strokes - a further 3 under Par. Roger is a protagonist of taking the best Drive each time..which can make us higher handicappers a little nervous, but it all worked out well in the end. Pete S-Farr certainly sunk some great putts. Roger Stone managed to walk all 18 again, but not without some creaking and groaning of joints - but having the chipping & scrambling skills of Roger 1 & Roger 2 certainly saved us a few times.
Farmer Bob did all the results and decided that dividing the Two's Pot by 16 was not worth the effort and dedicated it to the Colyford Corona Virus compensation fund.
