Friday 31st January 2020 - Brexit day 4-Ball Medalford reverse,

Friday 31st January 2020 - Brexit day
4-Ball Medalford reverse,

A fairly reasonable start saw 28 seniors gathered to play today’s 4B switch Medalford. Teams of 4 with the first drawn pair playing Medal on front 9 holes and then switch to Stableford on  back 9 holes. Second pair reverse the format playing Stableford on front 9 and Medal on back 9.  Half way through the game wind picked up, fog came in and rain fell to make it a tough finish. The conditions however didn’t deter one team from recording a very good score of 23 (9 & 14). Well done them. Surprisingly there were no 2’s and only two birdies on the day.

There was a discrepancy with one card (early starters who had recorded a score of 20) saw their score revised up by 5 as their scores on the card didn’t match up to their handicaps. For this type of game, I suggest that two cards are marked, one per pair. This will eliminate such errors as each pair will be checking the other pair’s marking.

Mick A was there again and walked / carried around the top 9 in his own personal order, Bertie took a look at the weather & format and stepped aside so the numbers were correct.
We passed Nick Hill out walking on Chaffcombe Lane, although technically still in his own back garden. He had a lesson with Roy last week and the 360 hip rotation has pulled muscles in places he never knew he had muscles . Golf is a non-starter for a while . We hear Bob Rees is not too good at the moment but no details.

We had planned a 'Brexit' snack in the Bar, something like Beef Sandwiches & Chips...but that appears to have died on the vine as usual.

Paul England has spotted that our muted St Paddy's Day on Tues March 17th coincides with a Challenge Cup Day away Day at Teignmouth - so not really viable for about 30-40 Seniors so we may have to forget it.

Got an anecdote during the round yesterday detailing how a certain CB shanked a drive and his ball smashed into Mr DD's wrist, causing a fracture that put him out of action for 6 Months.. dated around 20-30 Years ago.

 Today’s results are as follows:

Earlies being informed it was a Reverse Medalford which meant Medal/Stableford pairings had to swap after 9th - which led to a few interesting cards as they had to do some swift editing but no complaints so well done to you all.

Dave hit the perfect drive but 3 putts on the 1st Green was a little out of character...

But the Golf was excellent as they had the leading score

Farmer Bob & Chris worked well together to amass a leading score of just 11 - but when added to Pearce / Trott dropped them rapidly down the leader board...sorry Bob.
What Bob didn't factor in, however, is that those doing Medal on the front 9 are at a huge disadvantage, not only do we have the toughest holes, but Par is higher so we have to subtract our Stableford from a much higher gross than those doing the easy back 9 as a Medal with not a single Par 5 hole...so there.
The Captain did the maths and the average front 9 Nett was near 35 and the back 9 a tad over 31.

Nothing spectacular really, but Chris insisted we show the shot of the ball dropping..but what concentration from the whole Team.

2nd Prize, No 42 was won by Dickie.
