Monday 9th September 2019 Wet Scramble

Monday 9th September 2019
Wet Scramble & JKP Birthday

Updates:
From Captain:-

My apologies for this belated message, I went away immediately after our Open Texas Scramble on the 4th of September and this is the first opportunity for me to express my sincere thanks to everyone concerned in making the day a brilliant success.

Like a well oiled machine the day came together into a superbly run event.

Great comments were made by home and visiting teams which is very gratifying and guaranties a big entry next year.

It is the same Seniors who step forward every event who with past experience combine to make the day so seamless.

Forgive me for not listing every individual, you know who they are and I'm bound to forget someone, but they all do deserve massive appreciation.

Let me mention however what a wonderful contribution the Ladies Section make to our proceedings.
As first point of contact the entry of 144 players were met with a warm greeting, processed with skill and brilliantly organised.

The raffle makes a huge sum thanks to the approach from the girls.

The halfway hut serviced by the ladies was again a focal point and added not only to the charity but also to the day. It is hard work and they do it all out of the kindness of their hearts.

£696.95 pounds was raised for my charity, Guide Dogs, with yet again the generosity of people shining through.

Thanks once again to everyone, helpers and players a like, who make for one very proud Seniors Captain.

Peter Spencer-Farr.

Reference Monthly Rolling Stableford

Limited entry again for August's Rolling Stableford, however congratulations to

First Chris Rudling 36 points £5.00 and Second Norman Markby 35 points £2.50.

Well done Gentlemen!

Peter SF.

Max handicap for Seniors championship is 28

16th September Monthly Stableford is cancelled due to course maintenance

Poor forecast kept many away but 2 groups of early Birds managed 9 holes in probably the best conditions, only 75% wet.  They made up their own game and Gordon explained " we decided to lose the yellow ball just before the first hole"

so just 7 gathered for the 08:45 draw as acting temporary deputy Treasurer declined to go out ( Nick Hill) - so 3 ball scramble over 9 holes was agreed & then decide wether to carry on if rain stopped.
Used membership Cards instead of Seniors cards, but Dickie only had a 50p piece, so Bob was able to fiddle the Draw easily.

Barrow/Leigh/Hall were drawn against Housham/Adridge/Pearce, no Drives and usual handicap calc. Note there was no mention at this time about two's !

Rain from the start, with a slight respite in the middle but pretty heavy as we walked up the 18th.

Brialliant leadership from Ian Housham and Putting from Mick saw the 2nd group finish 3,3,3 on 16th-18th.   Little did they know that at that point they were 2 behind Farmer Bob - but they finished 3,4,4 and the scores were dead level ( 36 Gross)- but with Ian's Group had 4.92 to deduct and Bob only had 4.75 thus Ian won by 0.17 !!! - now that's close,

..Bob was about to pay all the Money to Ian's Team, when he spotted that both teams had 2 Birdies, but one of theirs was a "2" - so he grabble £3 from the pot to pay out his team. This left the impressive Winners with £2.00 after stake money of £1.50.

I fink we've been stitched up !

News came in that Honiton wished to cancel their Match due to start at 13:00 so we sat their and drank all their Coffee & Bacon Butties - with bill going to deputy assistant stand-in Treasurer.
James was a little late as we had reports of a car crashing into his garden wall at the junction of the Forton and Tatworth roads - a pretty regular occurrence.

The Ladies, however were not so lucky as they were pretty much forced intoplaying their game against tall Pines as it was a league decider..so as we left they were all dressed up and starting out.

Big discussion with bar Staff & Denise about Tuesday Fish & Curry Night as Richard had particularly asked for Horizon's Room, but it presented them with staffing problems. Hopefully we will still get Horizons but may have to wander in the main bar for a drink, so apologies if you have to do a bit of leg-work. Think Dickie has about 36 but we'd love a couple more. If you can join us for around 19:00 phone the Club and chose your meal ( Fish & Chips - or a Choice of Curry) - and we'll try and keep you amused as usual.
