Rollup Report 22nd July 2019
Irish Medley 3-2-1 & Taunton Match
A very nice day to entertain our friends from Taunton & Pickeridge
golf club. Literally a smashing day as I am sure John will have a caption on
the blog. The match was won 4.5 to 1.5 (Hooray first win in charge). Thank you
guys for giving a winning performance ( my first as Captain).
Unfortunately the big loser today was Derek Gardener who THOUGHT he had won a
bottle of wine for his very close to the pin shot on the 16th.
Sorry Derek, I owe you one.
(Mike's Wife had taken a turn for the worst, he had phoned Club but message was not passed on)
James Siabi & Ian Fielder Won 1 up
Frank Martin & Mark Cording won 1 up
Barrie Heath & Dave Mugridge won 2 & 1
John Pearce and Martin Leigh Lost 5 & 4
Roger Davis & Jeremy Blackburn halved.
Derek Gardener & John MacOmish won 4 & 2
Regards
James
Sorry Derek, I owe you one.
(..now Frank ordered me not to publish this, as James had done such a great job..even told a joke..but a text from James this morning told me to use it, sorry Frank.)
Also a big thanks to Jeremy to step in for Mike light
after having played 18 holes in the roll up.

One of the Taunton Team was not so lucky as he looked for his ball OOB on 4th, just short of that tree on the right...…

James
With the Captain absent and the vice Captain and John Pearce otherwise occupied in a match against a visiting team, and Bob Barrow having a day off, it was left to the members to organise an Irish Medley. The 2004 Captain decided quite rightly to concentrate all his efforts on his golf .....
"Ok, put all the names on the blackboard and those wearing ties can go out first.
We'll play an R&A Medal as usual and remember to doff your cap on seeing any Ladies on the course after reporting them to the Head Greenskeeper.
Any Aircraft overhead can be safely ignored as we are confident Gerry is finally on the run, God save the King."
…...which proved to be an entirely correct decision as he led his team to victory in a field of 10 teams.
So it was left to the 2016
and 2017 Captains to run the late rollup. They were drawn out last with Martin
Leigh and Alan Teasdale who had been drawn to play the Rolling Stableford. On
the 5 tee, John Pearce approached Martin and informed him that he was due to
play in the match. Fortunately, Martin and Alan had scored exactly the same
number of points on the previous four holes (nothing brilliant, I hasten to
add) and Roger and I continued on our way with our new partner. Oh, how we
wished we followed the example of the 2004 Captain.
There were 9 birdies, paying
£1.65 per birdie per team.
