Seniors Rollup 1st May 2019
3 – Man Texas Scramble
Either the temperature or the
threat of rain clearly put off a lot of Seniors today as the field for this
rollup was a mere 33 members. Even the bi-annual shearing of Nobby Hodder kept
them away – or maybe it was because of that.
The star team today was led
from the front by Nobby. Perhaps like the biblical Samson, now that he has been
shorn by our very own Delilah (aka Penny), his powers will evaporate.
Bob Barrow offered the excuse
that the ages of his team totalled 220 and that should be worth a few extra
points, but even that would have left them adrift of the winners. Dickie Hall
regaled his team with the tale of when he cut a lady’s bush to get at her
damsons, but they laughed so much that they lost all concentration.

Match v Weymouth
Unfortunately,
although on paper I thought we had a strong team to take to Weymouth Golf Club
in our latest away match the team succumbed to another four to two defeat. This
is our fourth loss by the same margin, just short of getting a positive result.
These are all away results however and it is just the way our fixtures have
worked out over the years that we play a lot of away matches early season. I
trust that home fixtures will turn the tide!
Cannot complain
about the day however, although their greens are no where near as good as ours,
we had a fun day. Good company, good weather, tasty meal and great facilities.
Chris Gingell won the bottle of wine for the away team nearest the pin on the fifth
hole with a fine shot to about four feet but despite that we could only get a
half, which proved to be as good as it got! Chris and I lost to a Dog Licence.
Well done
to our winning pairs of Roger Hinds with Mike Hone and Dave Mugridge with John
Twose. This was John's last act as a Cricket member as he has left us on the
principle that the Seniors are not sufficiently respected by the Club. I
respect his decision even though I do not agree but I will miss him and
fervently hope he will re-consider in the very near future. He has been a good
friend and a strong supporter of our section and will be missed.
