Bank Holiday mates day
2 From 3 Stableford
Well that all worked out very nicely as 23 rolled up for the 08:45 Draw and we managed to include a few we don't see very often.
Didn't see any really early birds, but were later passed by Malcolm and the Eggs, then Phil , Ray & Gordon from the 07:30 starters.
Vice Captain was on parade and his first decision was to discard the discard under the instructions of the Course Marshall who didn't want any litter around the place.
..by the way , I did the maths and Mick & Co would still have won with 70 after discarding 11 points, Nobby would have fallen to 4th place after discarding 11 as Bim & Co would only have discarded 9 and the field tightened up much more.

Numbers were a little odd, until James & James realised they could play their Summer Knockout, which they duly did and Mr Siabi defeated Mr MacDonald 2 Up.
Names were drawn as the ever attentive Seniors ignored the fact that we read out the name Archie Windsor amongst the cards.
As we got outside, Bim asked Geoff if he wanted to share his buggy.
No thanks, he says, I'm sharing with Anthony Roy. So we asked Anthony if he had a buggy , which of course he didn't - as Malcolm Roy (Dad) walked passed and we asked if it was him, with a similar denial.
"I've just been talking to him, protested Geoff, and he's loading up his buggy round the back"..which then took another 5 minutes to work out that it was Dave Smith, who wasn't playing with Geoff anyway !
So off we went with a bit of a chill in the air and some threatening clouds. We may have even had a wee sprinkling at one time but the sun soon came out and it was lovely up there.
Slight delay on the first as Aaron Crabb had to wait for the ones ahead of him to clear the corner - as he lined up at 45 Degrees to the Tee and smashed one over the corner and finished by the tree near the 150 marker.
So we'll do the results in
reverse order, with a target of 72 Points being a par Score.

Martin Leigh, Billy Hilson & Chris Hiam with 66 Shots failed to beat Par on either half. 35 Out, 36 back so their 71 was unfortunately not going to win them any goodies today.
Beating them on the back 9 were the Star-Studded team of the day, Steve Kitcher, Mark Barry & Ian Housham with just 38 Shots. Just 1 Point on the Par 5 4th hole and 2 points on the 6th put them 7 behind par on the front 9 alone. Double Birdies on 11th earned them only 6 Points so it was always going to be tough with so many high handicappers on parade. 29 Out, 42 back and another score of 71.
First Team to beat Par were Ian Fielder, Dickie Hall & John Pearce with 64 Shots. Here again only 1 Point on the 3rd Hole blighted a steady front 9 and 39 Points on the back 9 felt OK, but a Total of just 75 was to be merely 'best of the rest' Where were Dickie's 4-pointers that he normally contributes.
Getting better and unlucky to be out of the Prize Pot were Bim Morfitt, Anthony Roy and Geoff Dean with 62 Shots. Geoff getting 2 shots every hole can be a big boost, as it proved on the 16th where his par earned him 4 Points. Anthony made 2 Birdies, but playing off 11 handicap he didn't get 4 points for either of them . No disasters, but only 1 hole with 6 points kept them behind. 37 Out, 41 back for a total of 78 Points.
Charlie Summers was another to join us, along with Chris Andrews and Dave Smith. Again handicaps added to 66 and they started well and a Par from Charlie on the 3rd earned him a handy 4 Points. Again a better back 9 amassing 5 points more than Par. Dave Smith came home in a Gross 40 but their 38/41 halves for a total of 79 was worse merely on count-back than the silver medal Team. So it was 3rd Place and £1 Each for this Trio.
This Team held the bragging rights for an hour as they sat in the Clubhouse on 79 having been first on the Tee. Mike Hone was the star of the front 9, with Ken Trott mastering the second half. The Trio had 76 Shots between them which Ken put to his advantage with 5 3-point holes. Nobby, their 3rd player had a strong finish but Mike Hone with a personal 36 Points was definitely the Anchor-Man. So 36 Out, 43 Back ( Best in Show) - gave them 79 and 2nd Place with £2 Coins handed out to all of them ( except Mike's which JKP has).
So we had to save the best to last and there is always one team that manages to break the 80 Barrier.
70 Shots between them and plenty of 4 Point holes. Barrie Heath Birdied the 16th for 4 Points; Colin Ireland made Par on the 13th for 4 Points and Mick Aldridge made par on the 12th for another 4 points - such are the requirements for greatness. Mick also made par on the long 4th Hole and nabbed another 3 points on the 2nd & 10th holes. Barrie was rock solid all round and with Mick & Colin contributing 3 points like synchronised swimmers they were hard to beat. Fair to say the 13th put them over the line with 7 Points . 40 Out and 41 back for a total of 81 they all pocketed £4 Each and the job was done.
