Four Part  Report & Updates

I am very pleased to announce that James Siabi has agreed to be my Vice Captain, stepping in for Ian Housham, for the remainder of this year and consequently will be Captain next year. Personable, friendly, intelligent and with a business background, I am sure he will represent our section with distinction.
James came to the UK at the age of nineteen to go to University and has settled here ever since. I know that you will give him the same superb support that I enjoy on a daily basis and look forward to our collaboration for the rest of this year.

Peter Spencer-Farr     Seniors Captain 2019.

The annual away match against Rushmore Golf Club is looked forward to with mixed feelings. On the positive side, although some distance away, the journey there is picturesque. The course is beautiful, set amongst a huge deer park, the club house is traditional, the home team friendly and the post match meal superb ( fish pie- my favourite). On the negative side every year we are lambs to the slaughter. The greens slope and are some of the quickest we ever play, even in April, and the yardage is huge. Year after year we succumb six nil and we did not disappoint again this time. I was told that the greens always run towards the Isle of Wight, but as I had no idea where the I. O. W. was it did not help. On an optimistic note we did beat them last year on the return match at Cricket, perhaps we should not be too down hearted!

Peter S. F. Capt.

I have been asked to clarify the scoring procedure for the Harper Three Towns Competition next Wednesday 17th as we adopt something different every year.
This year, as I'm in charge, this is how I see it.

We play in three balls.

You play Match Play against both your opponents using the full handicap difference allowance off the yellow tees.

Six points are up for grabs in each match. Two points for a win, one point for a half and no points for a loss.

For example at any time in the game you could be up against one player but down to the other but in the end
beat both and you will get four points, with the losers competing against each other for the remaining two points.

So combinations could be 4-2-0,  4-1-1,  3-2-1 or if you all half 2-2-2 but always adding up to six.

The Team having the best combined total will win the Harper Three Towns Cup.

Any questions on a postcard to Peter S.F Capt.

Less seniors than usual turned out today as many played yesterday either in the away game at
Rushmore G.C. or in the Avalon League match. Many people are also on early year holidays spread over most parts of Europe.
Twenty-eight players however were left, in lovely spring weather, to compete in a four ball betterball competition.
Eric Smallwood and Jeremy Blackburn were the run away winners with the great score of 47 points which included three birdies one of which was a '2' on hole thirteen.
Chris Basterfield and Richard Agar were second with 41 points which also also included a '2'. Chris was the dominant
player on the day but although Richard only weighed in on four holes he scored twelve points and produced the '2' on hole 9.
