Three Ball Texas Scramble

A real bracing wind today but it was not cold, not wet and really quite exhilarating.
The original planned individual stableford was changed to a Texas Scramble to make things easier for play.

Course maintenance was in full flow with a new machine sweeping the top soil into the recently plugged holes.
All the greens were temporaries and in the conditions we might have expected low

scoring.
Not so, of the nine teams only one was out of the forties and Mike, Eric and Martin won with a solid 47 points. In addition there were six '2's with three going to the one team of Roger, Phil and Andy.

Captain's plea

Gentlemen, some things keep me awake at night and one is not having enough players for Interclub Matches going forward throughout the year.
We have some twenty-eight matches home and away and they come thick and fast.  In April we have four scheduled games in addition to Avalon League matches. There is a hard core of players I can rely on but we will need new blood to cover holidays and clashes in fixtures.

I hear a range of reasons why people don't play, can I quash a few myths.

I'm not good enough----Maximum handicap is 28 and the average for most opposition teams is well over 18

I don't like Jacket and Tie affairs-------Like all our home games most venues are now Smart/Casual.

I don't have a match shirt---------Whilst it is nice to be in matching kit it is not a criminal offence and if you have one, any light blue shirt will suffice.

The day is too long---------Yes, you are expected to stay for a meal but like our club most serve just one   course so everyone can get away smartly.

It is expensive for what you get-------Average cost to cover the meal and tip is £14. We also include a bacon  bap and coffee on arrival.
Away matches, with courtesy of the  course, is especially of great value.

There is a lot of travelling------------ We try to double up so we take it in turns to drive. Many places are    less than 45  minutes away.

I don't like playing away (or conversely at home)----------- I understand there can be personal preferences,  you can choose one or other or both.

I don't think I'll be picked---------We do select, if possible, one or two reserves but players are rotated.

It is too serious------ In fact far from it, yes everyone likes to win but a good day out is more important.

The Jokes are lousy------------Will try to get some new material for this season!!

Please  - if anyone is uncertain because they have not joined in before give it a try, you could well enjoy what to me is always a different and fun day.
