Winter League Round 7
The Final

I have this daft thought in my head- could it be that water falling on the 4th hole - heads to the Bristol Channel, and water falling on the 5th hole flows to the English Channel ?- If True, are we unique in Golf ?

Round 7 and the last of this years Winter League Competition, and what a splendid morning to be playing golf , after the frost disappeared it was just like summer with  a clear blue sky and bright sunshine and the course in good condition for this time of year. So the scene was set for a  highly competitive final round. The biggest movers  were John Evans, Alan Chance + S Pope. Who with 46 points were the winners on the day,and by bettering there lowest  score by 10 points moved them up the   leader board to joint second place in the overall competition alongside  Roger Hinds  Ian Housham , Peter Spencer Farr ,  + Richard Holmes, Richard Hall. Dave Mugridge with all three teams finishing on 168 points. But our congratulations must go to George Wallace     Ian Griffiths  Roger Davis, who by one extra point (169pts) are this years Winter League winners. So well done and many thanks to all who took part.( and we never played on a winter green all the way through.)

Meanwhile, 18 more members, unattached to Winter League pairings, played in an Individual Stableford competition. Half of the field finished within 2 points of each other. However, 3 players stood out from the rest and I understand that their cards are being forwarded to the Handicap Secretary for further scrutiny. Martin Leigh tried to put the outcome beyond doubt scoring 1 over gross in the first 9 holes. However, he relented in back 9 winning by 1 point over Clive Fisk. Mike Hone was 3rd.

I must apologise to the late group. I announced that birdies would be paid. However, the early group had been advised that birdies would be paid. There were 2 birdies each paying £4.50.
By Birdies, I mean of course one under par on each hole, which could in some cases mean '2s' but for clarity I chose the above explanation and I dearly hope you find this a refreshingly clear approach now I have signed up to the Clear English campaign !

We met John Wallis in the locker room and asked how he got on.."FFFffffffff-FFF" -
...what Fifty-Five I asked ..
..."No FFFFFfff-FFFF" - oh Forty-Four, that's more believable...
….."No it was FFFFFffff - Firty-Free"....
