Monday 14th September
Just in from Keith from Roll-Up.
After more discussions, the duration of the competition could be the first four holes, the top nine or all eighteen, all depending on the weather.
Two of the less hardy chickened out and went home and the remaining seven went out in two two-ball and one three-ball group.
Four holes were completed with the occasional shower but a discussion at the end of the sixth green saw the two two-balls amalgamate into a four-ball and all completed the top nine holes. In the clubhouse only four cards were submitted with scores of 17, 16, 15 and 11. There will be no adjustment to handicaps!!!!
Wednesdays match is the Challenge Cup final and Plate but the weather forecast is diabolical.
Heavy rain and wind greeted the seniors for todays roll-up.
Nine hardy souls turned up to play.
The keen seven discussed possibilities over hot drinks and
decided to play an Individual Stableford. After more discussions, the duration of the competition could be the first four holes, the top nine or all eighteen, all depending on the weather.

..then JKP ramblings...
I'm at a bit of a loss as how I should describe today as I sit here 9 hours later with a warm glow about me.

It started about 05:00 as I updated domestic handicaps and printed out Team sheets, knowing Captain & Vice away this week, along with Mick , Bert and a few others. Went up to Roll-Up and just a few remnants of the earlies, Mike, Malcolm, Andy, Tony etc drifted away as ran was falling and 18th holding water. Then second Roll-Up started to appear, Colin, Trevor, Sir Victor Gane etc..but I had to leave as I was taking Barrie to Okehampton to play in their open. I was Roger's 11th choice after Maurice fell to Man-Flu. Drove down through the rain and it gradually brightened as we headed to north edge of Dartmoor. Minutes before we left the A303 was blocked by a nasty accident that was still being cleared as Alan, Stuart and Lighter went past.
Anyway, we sat down at Okehampton for an hour as the rain got worse, then they announced it was all cancelled. There was much amusement between Alan, Stuart and Mike as they realised the £15 owed to Farmer Bob, carried over from Knighton Heath for missing the outing, then passed to Alan and onto Mike - was now not redeemable until 2016 as Lighter left the booking money for next Year.
We headed back home around 11:30 - back up to Cricket. As we passed Yarcombe the road was blocked by the Fire Brigade who were dealing with Camper Van towing a Smart Car, halfway up the hill by the Pub that had burst into flames. I think they'd forgotten to take the handbrake off !

As we arrived at Cricket around 13:00 the weather looked fair, so we downed a quick San Miguel and went out to play a Skins game on just Top 9 - but weather stayed nice so we added 7th & 15th as no-one else was around. Wind started to pick up but we managed to stay bone dry and even stripped off the rain-gear for the last few holes.
Back up to the Bar for a chaser and home for tea after what turned out to rather a pleasant day.
Met the new Manager / Chef who is Simon from Tazmania...so be warned, don't call him an Aussie !
Also Jackie and Steve Hill are back from their Holidays.
The main picture reflected what happens every time you go out with 'Lighter'. Even down at Okehampton he bumped into an old Pro from Plymouth Ho who couldn't believe he was still alive.
Anyway he was chatting up Elle when he gradually found out she was a tenant of his Daughter Cindy who runs the Ilminster Pub. She showed Mike a Facebook picture of herself and Cindy and who was in the next picture but Lighter himself.
We have 16 names for the Gala Nigh but would love a solid 20 so I can give Tess the tables. See Tab on Menu above and help us complete the Seniors block..and I don't mind if we go into 3 Tables...It's the 1st Birthday party and a way of thanking Steve & Jackie for all they have done for us up at the Club.
..as I say, a strange old Day.
