Meeting Ended at 15:30 and Captain thanked all members for their valuable input. Vice-Captain was busy writing everything in his Scouting for Boys Annual, which did a marvelous job of keeping him fairly subdued.

Following JKP search for a Card Table..one Member phoned up to say "How many do you want"

Hi John

Please can you publish on the blog.

“Free to a good home, a 7ft x 5ft summerhouse. Only 3 years old. Will only need new roofing felt. Taking apart in the next couple of weeks or if you want it earlier let me know and you can help dismantle it. Too good to throw away”

Wednesday 24th January 2024

Wow- that was a busy one as 47 Players rolled-Up. including some newer ones, or returnees.

Paul England was in the building....after wintering in Lopen and building a scale model of the Eiffel tower in his garden over the winter.

Tons of low handicappers on display, including 5-Handicapper Kevin Barry, with Ian H, Danny, Dave etc and appearances by Wayne Salter, Steve Sutcliffe, Charles Summers etc

Bert Robinson was out with Mick Aldridge. Bert had a lovely Christmas, travelling to Manchester to Family and ended up spending 29 Days in Manchester Hospital full of tubes & biotic things.

Bit of a slow getaway on 1st - but well done for ansence of grumpiness.

Tough game today with 6 drives each - so no spares.

I was left with drives on 17 & 18, but managed to cock them up twice, Luckily Muggo & Bob the Builder were able to recover and hit the greens from just about anywhere I put them.

Idea of the game - keep Bogies off of your card....just one Team managed that - Danny /Mark & James who started 3,3,3 and were out in 32 - already 3 shots ahead of the nearest team. Unfortunately with only 6 stroke handicap - and others receiving up to 17 - it was always going to be tough for them to win.

15th was toughest Hole.

67 Bogies in total with course playing the best it has for a while as it stayed dry and warm.

,,think what it would have been like without a buggy-ban....

Monday 22nd January 2024

We all felt very clever as the shades were lowered in the 19th to block the Sun  as we gathered for Roll-Up. Where is everyone ?- why are they not here as temperature soared to 9 Degrees and Vice Captain Keith Hunt announced The Game, The Rules and then The Draw....

We had been underway for an hour, when the skies darkened as per the picture - and Niagara Falls was re-created atop Windwhistle Hill and several greens disappeared underwater completely.

This all took just 17 Minutes as rainfall of Biblical Proportions sucked in a bitter wind and we lost about 5 Players.

For the next hour then Greens were crazy, but typical CST - The sun re-appeared, the water left us and all was forgiven.

Thanks to Keith and Mike for the Pictures.

Friday 19th January 2024

Early Birds set the pace in glorious Sunshine.

Great start for Sweetie as topped drive on 1st goes 50 yards..2nd shot flirts with OOB on right as 3rd goes left ..but then after bounce or two  on frozen Fairway and a skid near green it drops into the hole for a Spaniard....Por Favour !!!

Loud cheer was heard on 8th as Roger Hinds sinks 30 foot put for the only "2" of the day.

Their Celebrations soon ended as on very next hole (9th) - all three were in Bomb Crater and only one survived for a single point ( with all 3 to count) - On that very same hole Roger, Mark & Ian scored 10 Points -

Sidmouth, Lyme & Cricket do battle on the Sunshine in first competitive event of 2024

..Captain Andy reports, 80% of players score under 35 and 45% were in the twenties...

The first match in the Tri-Match series was played away at Lyme Regis. The weather was sunny and warm (I know who would have thought it) The course was in good condition for the time of year with all greens open. Star of the day for Cricket was Mark Cording who returned 41 points. However a member of Sidmouth had a hole in one!! apparently it hit some hoops and was diverted in. Who cares?

They all count and thank you for the drink.

Scores are on the table below.

Thank you to the seniors that played.

Next round is at home on February 06th team sheet on the notice board.

Andy
