CST v AXE CLIFF

Thursday’s friendly with our near neighbours resulted in a hard fought win for CST 4-2.
Peg leg Wandless was carried around the course on the broad shoulders of “Big Man” Jim Lauchlan resulting in 3&2 victory.
Frank Martin & Alan Chance came up against a 23 handicapper playing to 10, and suffered a 3&2 defeat.
The same fate overcame Rob Shelley & Ian Thomas with a 4&3 loss.
Roger Williams & Dave Asquith levelled proceedings with a comfortable 4&3 win, and with Chris Gingell and John Baker coasting to a 5&4 victory, all rested on the final match.
As we all gathered on the balcony to witness the outcome of the game, it was apparent that the match was all square as Dave Mugridge and Stuart Pope approached the green. Opposition par putts were conceded and Dave secured a half with another solid par. It was all down Stuart as he lined up a difficult left to right 20 footer.  Needless to say to putt was holed to rapturous applause from the balcony, and victory secured.
Stuart’s putt will go down in the annals of CST Seniors folk lore for many years, (as we will be constantly reminded of the feat), and as time passes the length of the putt will get greater and greater, requiring a green half way to Crewkerne to accommodate the mythical length.

Axe Cliff were great company and we all look forward to the return match in a few weeks time.

JUST DO IT !!!!!
