HONITON Monday 19th June

Superb warm and muggy day. Course was in great condition with the greens

particularly quick but true. Couldn't fault the meal or the welcome from the

opposition and a fun day was had by all made even more enjoyable by our

win of 4 and half to 1 and half.

For the record :

Peter Spencer-Farr/ Derek Gardener Won 3&2

Roger Williams/ Chris Gingell Won 6&4

Jamie Parkhouse / Alan Chance Lost 5&4

Mike Hone/ Mark Cording Won 6&4

Jim Lauchlan/ Dave Mugridge Halved

Keith Hunt / Terry Rutherford Won 4&3

Alan Chance won the wine for nearest the pin on the 8th.

Well done everyone. PSF.

Funny how things work out on a quiet Sunday, in mysterious Tatworth.

I had just spent a couple of hours in Stowell Meadow, tidying up my secret pond and was walking back up Tatworth Street in my Waders and carrying a slash-hook and a large knife etc .

A Lady crossed the street in blue slippers and emptied an ashtray into the Farmers Field opposite. I said to her, "That was a risky road crossing to undertake", as she replied  "My Boyfriend doesn't know I smoke !"

Being the shy, introverted type, as you know, I grilled her further and she asked " Where have you been dressed like that ?

I explained about Stowell Meadow and she then said  she knew it very well as she used to play there as a child, having lived all her life in the village. Now I didn't have to use a lie-detector or thumb-screws to get her talking, but I found her name was Mrs Grinter, nee Mary Stanhope.  "You probably know my Brother in Law, and My Sister - Richard & Jenny Hall "....and the rest is History  on the very day I was posting their new Address.

No Clive, all moisture in the groin area is pure Stowell Water, but many thanks for your usual insightful and educational inputs to the Blog.

The pond is doing very well, although a bit overgrown compared to this pic. I sat there for a couple of hours watching the wildlife. Acres of Meadow-Sweet and Cow Parsley - which was adorned with a million butterflies & other insects.  I saw one beautiful black one with flashes of vivid purple, not seen before.

Sue Stone says it is a Purple Emperor

Fire Engine can just be seen on A30 with 'Jaws of Life ' - after B3167 blocked - at 08:13 on my dash

Tony Andrews was chipping well today..but had a Trolley Moment as it nearly did a 200 yard downhill dash through bomb crater into woods

What a front 9 as Mark , Tony & JKP must have been leading by a mile with 48 Points, only for it to crumble on the back 9 but they just hung on.
Mark was playing low-handicap golf, but was thwarted by 2 30-Handicappers . JKP made Par on the 1st for 4 Points...Mark was needed on long 4th, so made a welcome 3 points . JKP made another Par-5 on the 5th - which contributed another 4 Points to go with Marks Par.  on Par 3 8th  Mark was inches from a '2' - but picked up as other two had the 6 points in the bag.  JKP was there again on 9th with a 20 foot putt that earned his 3rd '4-pointer on the front 9.  As usual, weariness crept in and he barely contributed on the back 9, with the other 2 clinging on to just keep the lead.  Mark just smiled through it all !
