After a relaxing start, where he contributed absolutely nothing over the first 7 Holes - he scored 5 Points on the  Par 3 8th hole by sinking and 8-Iron, witnessed by Roger & Rob.

Sunday 9th October 2022

Time for reflection as Roger & Jane Hinds fall to Covid once more - what a year for the Family as they were forced to evacuated and abandon their home in Dowlish Wake after the floods and still not recovered.

Rod Stevens also gone down with Covid.

Winter League

Just some JKP perspective on the low numbers of Teams on NB. There was a lot of chatter on WhatsApp due to changes this year to go back to 2 Man Teams. The 2-man format has run for more than a decade now and only became 3-man in 2019

Most agree that the revised format worked well last year, but not due to the 3-Man format, but due to the fact that the Roll-Up on the day was a 4BBB and where Winter League Players were present, they would form a Team, any Singleton WL Players would be given a random partner and the score would still count. Everyone else at Roll-Up would be drawn as normal and the Comp completed and paid out on the day as a 4BBB. All W/L Scores would count as a total for that round.

Having 3 Players also allowed flexibility, but often they had to decide on the day which 2 would play that day, the third would be in the Roll-Up Draw.

Some comments on WhatApp ( apologies if you don't participate in that Mobile Application) - accused the Committee of ignoring Members and steaming ahead with the changes. This was not the case and it was never discussed in Committee. The Organiser of the Comp has the authority to make changes as they do all the hard graft in promulgating, calculating and adjudicating - anyone is welcome to take over this role.  If a challenge to this is required, then the correct procedure is to request an Agenda Item be added to AGM in November and subsequently abide by any ensuing vote.

The Committee is not some evil entity - we all just turn up and discuss various issues and plan ahead. Anyone is welcome to join us - but be warned , you will rarely leave without a list of jobs to do on your scribble pad .

So Please add your name to the list on the NB - the league runs all winter and adds a bit of healthy competition in  those dark & dismal days.  If you don't have a pairing, just put your name up and someone will join you.

We knew it  would be quiet as there was a full team off to Yeovil for a match.

Captain had cancelled several Tee-Times....but today supply definitely outstripped demand.

Just Mark S and Brian M out early and the numbered swelled another 6 as 2 3-balls were able to form up. Weather was dry but pretty gusty..but we all knew what was forecast.

Chris did the draw, so it was Farmer Bob, with  John Pearce & Ken Trott.

Chris G drew Quinny & Nobby.

Chris insisted we stuck to the rules and wanted 5 drives each.

Farmer Bob & Co started off pretty well 4,4,4,4,  6 on the Par 5 which was into the gale, then 4,3,3 as Ken's chipping sparkled and started on a birdie trail,  As we crossed the road to, 9th their was a distinct change. We had been bone dry until then and feeling rather clever - but horizontal rain greeted us, then Nobby appeared out of the mist and said " we are giving up".

Ken was reluctant to give up his Birdie Money until Bob explained that no-one had put any money in, so the payout would not change his life.

We never saw Chris's Card, but he graciously admitted defeat..

Chris & I then proceeded to put away all the Seniors various Cups, Jugs, Plates, Statues , Plinths etc from Presentation Night.  Sad to say they exist in an ignominious cardboard box in the Pro Shop - but we'd love to find a better hyome for them.

Nick Hill did a great job cataloging the Trophies and getting them engraved. All this has lapsed, however, and we desperately need a Trophy Tzar to get them updated and ideally find a display area for them . Any Volunteers?-

Seems to be a run of bad news these days as we hear of the passing of another Seniors Golfer, Mr Stuart Jeanes.. Stuart was 96 Years old. Stuart Farmed over in Cricket Malerbie and in his prime towed his own personal Club Buggy up to the course - a clunky old diesel.  Many of the Seniors used to visit Stuart to play snooker on his full sized table.  Don't seem to have a picture of Stuart in our archives, which is rare for  the Seniors. Stuart's Farm virtually bordered the holes over 8.9 & 10 from what I remember.  He'd often invite us over to pick from his bursting plum trees in the early spring.

Anyone got a picture or update, would be appreciated.
