CST Seniors v. Honiton
As Captain Covid was suffering from Tendinitis in his
wrist. Vice Captain was called on to deputise and lead team from the front.
The match was played on the hottest & stickiest day
for some time, which lead to one of the opposition players feeling unwell and
being rescued by Cyd (in a buggy) from the halfway hut. All were glad to
refresh themselves at the end of the round.
The course is starting to firm up & play in its familiar summer conditions of fast and bouncy, which caused some trouble for the opposition as tee shots bled off fairways into the sticky rough, which caused further problems.
This led to an overall match result of:
CST
5 Honiton 1
Individual match results:
Dave Mugridge & Roger Davis won 2&1
Barrie Heath & Keith Hunt won 5&3
Ian Thomas & Jim Lauchlan won 7&6
Chris Gingell & Roger Stone lost 2&1
Bob Dennett & Barry Keates won 4&3
Roger Hinds & Edmondo Paoloni won 3&1
Both Nearest the Pins were won, Keith Hunt winning the
home prize, getting very close at 16 & getting his 2.
An excellent performance, giving the Vice Captain a 100% record

Captain's Report on Friendly Match
V. VIVARY PARK FRI 03 Sep 2021
Vivary Park are always competitive both Home and Away and
their teams featured towards the top of the leader boards in both the Charity
Invitational Day and the Texas Scramble.
This also meant
several of them had recently played at CST. Playing on a tree lined course also holds
no fear for them, so we knew this would be a close match. Their handicaps were also on average well
above ours and several in the 30's, perhaps a reflection of quite how narrow
Vivary is and of course it gets narrower by the year. For the record we got trounced away earlier
in the year one of our worst results.
The weather was perfect for golf hazy sunshine with a
slight breeze and occasionally quite hot.
. Conducive to good golf and
most of the groupings had very close matches, except two match ups..
Mark Cording & Derek Gardener. Won 1up
Barry Keates & Roger Stone. Halved
James Siabi & Chris Gingell. Halved
Roger Davis & Barrie Heath. Won 5&4
Paul England & Keith Hunt. Won 7&6
Dave Mugridge & Peter Spencer-Farr. LOST 1 Down
RESULT BEING A WIN 4-2
Not only did the Vice Captain not get the wine but he also lost his match,
albeit by one hole, but this is notable as it is a very rare event.
Well done the whole team as we continue the
sections match play form, which has been pretty consistent and good this
year. We still have NINE MATCHES this
year and the cost is still only £15 for Bacon Roll & Coffee; a hearty one
course meal with coffee and a friendly but competitive round of golf. Surely in today's world excellent value, so
more and different names on the sign up sheets would be good. A lot of work and time goes into these
annual matches and it would be a great shame if they were to come under
threat. Given the noise levels at the
dinner tables all who play thoroughly enjoy these matches so if you are new to
the section or not played in a while come and join the fun.

Knighton Heath Cup Quarter Final
CST Seniors contested the Quarter Final of the Knighton
Heath Cup at CST on Thursday afternoon against a strong team from the Isle of
Purbeck.
When your lowest handicap players are receiving up to 4 shots from the opposition, you wonder if you might have a bit of a struggle. When the 1st five results were in, things were not looking good as we had only won 2 of the matches.
However, the 5 heroes at the end of the team won all the remaining matches to give a 7 - 3 victory to CST.
Dave Mugridge won 4&3
Roger Hinds won 2&1
Bob Dennett lost 4&3
Steve Southgate lost 2 down
John Wandless won 5&4
Mark Cording won 2&1
Chris Gingell won 3&1
James Siabi won 3&2
Roger Davis won 5&4
We now await the draw for the Semi-final.
Well done Team
Dave Mugridge
Alan Davis:-
He very much appreciates all
the kind thoughts and messages received, thank you to everyone.
With best wishes,

..and from Roy our Professional...
Hi
John, I hope the Seniors Open was a success today. Please can you put a message
on your Seniors page.
I could do with more support from the seniors regarding lessons. I had 6 x 30
mins lessons last month from members! Luckily I had the visitors looking after
me. The same 3 seniors turn up every week for group coaching. It's £7.50 for an
hours coaching and unlimited balls.
Many thanks

..as they say in the adverts..Use Him or Lose Him...
..but Steve had already chipped in for a "2" on the 2nd...
..which was swiftly followed by and 8-iron to 3rd green that crept on at the left side and smoothly glided down towards the pin for yet another birdie...

.so as promised above..the total from just the Auctions was...
THE AUCTION RAISED £2136.50
..plus the Raffle, Tee-Sponsorship, Halfway House and other donations...
As promised, Seniors awoke to bright sunshine..but unfortunately that was Senior Ballesteros and Senior Olathabal in Spain...over here it felt like 10 degrees and pretty nippy..but the warm sunshine did arrive eventually.
Nice to see Ian Fielder back playing with new nuclear eye-drops helping his vision. He scored on 11 holes making a major contribution to their score.![]() |
Where were you all you dirty rats !!!! |

Martin looks delighted with his drive as in the background..Gordon can be seen just ahead of Chris in the Summer Knockout Match...and that's just how they finished, on the 18th hole. |
At 08:45 Golfers gradually arrived, Chris G had everything set up for us, also did the results and calculations which was much appreciated. Vice captain had already slimmed down our Tee-Times, but in the event we only needed 4 of the Dozen left..which was rather strange for this fun format.

Roger Hinds back with us but finished 3,3,4,5 against the leaders 5,6,5,5 and drifted down the leader board.
![]() It was all downhill for Bob Rees and his group as they managed just 2 points on the 1st hole and after 9 holes they were already 10 behind the leaders., |
Great front 9 from Mr Bargery & Co..but disaster from 14 through 18 cost them what should have been a winning score... |
Health Update:-
How soon things can change in the Seniors Section...Pictured above is Alan Davis, holding his winnings from The Sinners amassing 155 Points in the Charity 4BBB..
....where is he now ?...
His Wife, Rosemary writes...( after I requested details)...
Alan has had a Urostomy which involved removing his
bladder . They also removed the remains
of his prostate. They were prepared to
do the op because he is fit and healthy and Taunton Hospital said his heart
could cope with the antiesthetic. He is
in Exeter Hospital because that is where the trained team and robot are. All the staff are exceptional.
Yes, he did well at the charity day and was looking
forward to several other events, but presumably they had a cancellation for
last Friday. So his wings are clipped
for the next three months.
When he is home and getting better, but not allowed out anywhere, we will welcome visitors .
Sunday Update:-
He looked a little better this afternoon, his blood pressure was done while I was there and it was much better than in the morning apparently. The staff looked rather relieved. Day 2 is always dodgy. He was allowed a little jelly at lunchtime and there was the possibility of a little soup at teatime. Oooohhh! He even allowed me to take his photograph.
The staff at Exeter are all terrific.
With best wishes,
Rosemary Davis.
