..we have Tee-Times for Monday..watch out for Comp Details as we have tee-times booked so let's make use of them on this Ban Holiday Monday..It's Mates Day so you can bring anyone along...

Captain & Vice doing rather well in the InterClub Matches and Nice to see so many 'Virgins' playing..you see, we told you they were good fun.. Ian Thomas & Jim Lauchlan seemed to be joined at the hip these days..although with that pairing that still means they are 4 feet apart !!

..oops sorry guys...

See InterClub Page for full results

HOME MATCH V. AXECLIFF             26 Aug 2021

Cording & Dennett WON 5&4

Davis & Hunt WON 6&4

Stone & Barrow HALVED

Gingell & Spencer-Farr WON 6&4

Thomas & Lauchlan WON 7&6

Mugridge & Paoloni WON 4&3.

The home nearest the pin was Roger Davis not the Vice

Captain who won the last four bottles of wine.

Result 5 1/2 - 1/2 WIN

FRIENDLY V. YEOVIL 25 Aug 2021

This was our first ever friendly against Yeovil which unquestionably could be seen as an improvement in our fixture list and a recognition of the improvement in our course.   Owing to the amount of golf we are playing the team included new and recent newcomers to these friendly matches.   Today we welcomed Stuart Seery 21.7 and Martyn Jewell 18.3 as ‘virgin’ members of the friendly match club.

I also want to thank Andy Read for offering to play when we were short and then stepping aside when late volunteers became available.  Primarily this was because there is a 28 cap on handicaps but for you higher handicaps please note that Eric Williams 30.4 was apparently the star in the winning partnership with Richard Holmes.

Yeovil’s team were complimentary about the course but many complained about the rough and the pace of the greens.   Apparently our greens were far superior to their own.

As for the result we managed a great win 4-2.

 Cording & Davis.   Won 5&4

 Siabi & Gingell.       Lost 2&1

 Thomas & Lauchlan Won 3&2

Seery & Jewell.       Lost 1 Down

 Williams & Holmes.  Won 3&2

 Mugridge & Gardener. Won 5&3

 CST 4 YEOVIL 2

Mark Cording

PS.  We had a fantastic day yesterday and raised significant amounts for SURE.   I have many people to publicly thank.   The visiting teams all appeared to thoroughly enjoy the day and were extremely generous in their donations.   I will wait until the takings are collated and verified by SURE and ourselves, before announcing the total raised.

This announcement will include detailed gratitude but until then my sincerest thanks to all who helped and donated to this wonderfully successful day.

A very tired and proud Captain.

Captain’s Invitational Charity Day

A massive thank you for all who contributed, donated and helped with the day.   It’s too early to give a total but ...

"I am confident it will exceed £4000 a truly magnificent effort   "

The Captain’s; Vice Captain’s and Former Captain’s teams teed off first just before 8am and the bar was still busy at 7.30 tonight.  A long day for all concerned but I must say a brilliant effort and stunning result.   John Wandless is preparing a report and Keith and I will collate the funds and publish the total we have all helped raise.

We very much hope to continue this exceptionally popular event even if Stuart  decides to retire.   Or part retire from organising this event.

Once again a huge thanks.

Mark

We'll add more pictures & details to the SURE Page as they come in. Can't believe JW shift as he was glued to his chair from 06:30 till past 19:00....pretty much did all results on his own as Quinny was called away at the last minute ..

Clive tees off on way to impressive 17 Points on the front 9, making Par on 8th & 9th....who says we need all that fancy Golfing Gear and  Outfits...

Please try and park around the back and tidily so we can give all of the visitors a nice welcome. We are changing / showering for Dinner...but no Jackets & Ties required today, although some will probably wear them anyway.

Private Fisk salutes you all  on behalf of the RAFA

John, not blowing our own trumpet but John Evans and I

came second in the Long Sutton Seniors Open last Thursday

with 44 points. 88 pairs entered and we were only pipped by

the last team out. Maybe warrants a small entry on the blog?

Regards Pedro

Any "lefties" with a few old clubs spare? A friend wants to try out playing left handed following an operation -

Note to Chris Gingell.

Thanks for doing all the results again. Your Sheets at Roll-Up were much appreciated. One comment..no 35% on tabulated sheet. Tried to convince them that 10% plus 25% = 35% but Mathematician amongst them pointed out it was not the same as you are summating 2 rounded figures which may differ from a rounded percentage of a single figure...

Monday is Battle of Britain Day

Where the entry fee is donated to the RAFA Charity, as Seniors have done for many Years.

..but this Year we have a special guest....an Actor that once was auditioned for a part in Dad's Army but rejected for his Chard accent, which they they thought sounded a little Bavarian.

However he retained his audition costume and will be launching sneak attacks on all the playing groups on Monday ..in a cunning disguise.

Your generous donations will be added to the Captain's Charity for Tuesday - so this will be your chance to help that event.

"I will be playing in the Battle of Britain competition on Monday and will be diving into my fancy outfit (not dress) box to find something appropriate to wear on the day.

I will aim to collect donations from the Seniors as there are a lot who are not playing in Tuesdays comp."

Fisk..put that flipping light out...

I will add £10 if anyone can guess who or what I’ll be.

It won’t be a Turkey or nurse again. Here’s a clue: TDV.

many thanks

 Clive Dunn  Fisk

You can also deposit cash at Roll-Up Today for advance purchase of Tuesday Raffle Tickets...come on, it's all for SURE at Musgrove and many Seniors, past and present rely on such equipment.

Got a Team for the Seniors Open on September 1st ?- Ted Bryden & Bert Robinson are looking for a 3rd after losing Mick Aldridge ( recovering) from their 3-ball Scramble.

Note for John Wandless - Dickie Hall needs to go at as late as possible within the 3 CST Teams on the Charity Day so he can hand the raffle over to the Ladies on the Desk, thanks.

Chris Hiam had a scare as a ball marked 'NM' entered his buggy on 7th, rattled around off the roof & floor and rested neatly in the parcel shelf. Chris refused please by Team to driver nearer  to 15th Green before allowing them to drop it out..

New Man Barry Keates with Stuart Seery and the Phantom Pro..although the real Paul Deprose was seen in the Pro Shop today...

Danny & Martin & Chris approach the 14th and the really slick greens that faced us today.

Did you spot Dickie & Jenny Hall's bungalow up for sale in the Chard & Ilminster today ?- They are moving a mile north to Grimchard and building a joint Family hone with Daughter & Son-in-law..but he's already built the Winery & meat-processing shed..so his 'road-kill' customers need not be concerened.
I was out with Dickie & Hagar the Horrible today..which pretty much described our round.
Plenty of shots, we all got 2-shots on the 3rd. Can you imagine our expectations as we Teed-off with basically 21 Strokes to ensure a point, as anyone could get a seven for 1....but we walked off with a big fat zero...
Note for Charity Day Group - Cyd brought in the Welcome Banner and it's in the filing Cabinet. Rod Young also donated a bottle of fizz for the raffle, thanks Rod.

James has updated the Summer Knockout, with a 21-Hole shoot out today as Cording/Davis progressing at the expense of Heath/Siabi.

In the Singles, Chris Gingell dispatched Norman Markby.

Saw Mark Sanders in the Car Park today and told us of his woes. Having his Central Heating renewed and yesterday the Gas Fitter passed the point of no return..and ripped out the Gas Boiler.

Sitting down for a cuppa and a bourbon or two, had chest pains and ended up being rushed to Hospital by Ambulance with a suspected heart attack....

As Mr & Mrs S evaluated their situation, in the cold morning light, with no hot water etc...there was a knock on the door and it was the Gas fitter back to finish the job....

False Alarm..it was just Indigestion......

Andy, Chris, Mike & Derek of the Tetley-Tea we hate Canadian Greensomes squad booked an early slot and went out as a 4-ball in the vacant 08:56 slot.

Derek on 4th..drive just made hump before the hump before the Ladies Tee.....

Minutes Later...JKP was even shorter as the Golfing Gods made him pay for taking the picture...
