What does it take to win ?

7 Points on the 2nd  and rock-steady from 3rd hole onwards.  Looks like Gordon is coming back to form  and it was only 85% handicap.

.. can you please put a note on the blog to remind people to enter their cards on the computer. two groups did not. Also to make sure that on the card they clearly print the competition name, Date which tee was used along with their name/names. and don't forget to sign it.

Thanks - Chris Gingell, Adjudicator.

Captains Report

Sorry for delay but there were some anomalies

with missing cards, scores not on the computer

and people possibly playing off the yellows.  This

was possibly caused by there being several tee

times used for Summer Knockout matches which

are off yellows.  People may have followed suit

but regular golfers should know Medals are from

White tees.

The largest division was again Div 2 so we are

watching WHS revisions, if people keep drifting

out then this might change again.

Congratulations to all the winners and perhaps

small number of birdies.  There were apparently

some big numbers on most cards with even some of

the winners succumbing to triples or worse.

The 4BBB OPEN is on Wednesday 7th JULY

it is only £17.50 for home players including 2

Course meal and £100 First Prize; £60 Second

and £40 for Third and that is just for the HOME

TEAMS.    If you have RAFFLE PRIZES or

HOLE SPONSORSHIP MONEY please let

any COMMITTEE MEMBER know.

ENTRIES CLOSE AT 5pm TOMORROW MONDAY

5TH and we will be finished in time for the SEMI-FINAL and the BIG SCREEN will be on at the club.

CAPTAIN'S REPORT ON AWAY FRIENDLY AT VIVARY 28th JUNE

Firstly my apologies for the delay but we got back just after 8pm so I was late for my birthday party.
Obviously there was also the aftermath of the cloudburst that struck Chard.

The forecast all day had been for rain, but our match in Taunton was played in beautiful warm sunshine.

Even at 8pmwe saw no evidence of rain until Donyatt.

Even though the opposition knew it was my birthday, they failed to offer any gifts in fact the very opposite, handing out a lesson on how to play their extremely tight and tree lined course. Their course management combined with lots of shots,

..... led to a 5 1/2 to 1/2 loss.

There were a number
of par 3's and its tough giving shots on all of them. It's not often Stuart Pope playing off 23.6 ended up giving 6 shots.

Well done to Mike Hone and Roger Davis for saving a whitewash by securing a
half point.

Our next match is on Monday 5th at The Dorset Golf and Country Club and we are currently one short so let me know if you are able  to play.

RESULT

MARK CORDING & NEIL COCHRAN . LOST 3&1

JAMIE PARKHOUSE & IAN THOMAS. LOST. 6&5

ROGER DAVIS & MIKE HONE. HALVED

DEREK GARDENER & ANDY ROWLAND LOST 4&3

JAMES SIABI & PETER SPENCER-FARR. LOST 2&1

STUART POPE & PAUL ENGLAND. LOST 3&2

Many thanks to all who played.

Mark Cording

Could hardly believe the rain last night that closed down Chard, the A30, most of tatworth....

..and then up at the Club this Morning it simply say...

"Course Open"

how lucky are we ?

Around 10 arrived optimistic to play, but 7:30 became 09:00..then 10:00 and most drifted away as the low cloud and drizzle persisted and greens were getting waterlogged.  Lots of crack in the bar when we were finally allowed  to get out of the rain at 09:00 for a Coffee.

Good luck to the Captain and his Team off to Vivary today and hopefully they get some play.

Happy 60th Birthday to the Captain today.

Open Teams building nicely with 18 Visiting Pairs being given their tee-Times along with about  14    19   Home Pairs.    Pearce/Leigh and Hilson/Branchflower added this Morning. Douggie Oliver is looking for a Partner and believe Chris Gingell is Signing up with a Friend from another place ( so will be a Home Team)....keep them coming..need to fill up all the booked slots and don't forget those cakes so the missus can update the Tesco / Waitrose/Sainsbury Order....Tell the Pro Shop or John Wandless....
See Seniors Open Page for current status...

What a busy day up at the Club, with  several events taking place amongst the Seniors alone:-

..but can we start with the
 Seniors 4BBB OPEN on  07July

Entry Fee: £45 per pair
Closing date for entries: Mon 5th July  2021
Format: 4BBB
Handicap Index Limit: 28
Age Limit: 55+

Includes tea/coffee on arrival and a 2 course meal after golf
Playing allowance 85%
Yellow tees
Raffle in aid of SURE charity
Optional 2’s sweepstake

Lots of excellent Prizes for Home and Away Teams.

There was a Committee Meeting on Wednesday and we agreed all the various actions...like the Blog detailing how to enter etc - and we apologise for being a bit behind, but there was some uncertainty about it going ahead.

All we need from you at this time is to think about your pairing and book the day in your Diary. Club has 20 Visiting Pairs at the moment, so it would be great if we could get 40 Home pairs. Either Pick your own Pair or just let us know and we will pair you up.

It's a great day up at the Club and there is a job for everyone, even if you can't play at the moment.

  • Hole Sponsors - Can you help, always a good source of Income
  • Raffle Prizes - Essential for Fund raising
  • Halfway House - we need lots of lovely cakes on the day please.
  • Helpers - lots of jobs to be done.
Provisional Draw on Seniors Open page, final draw Monday 5th July
Club Computer will be set up for Late Entries.

JKP Note - Put Nobby Hodder in with Ian Housham

Just remember it is a huge fund raiser for the Captain and Every Senior needs to play their part to make the day a great success.

Andrew strides off 10th with  4 Points and a staggering back 9 holes of 7 Under-Par to topple Chris Hiam who had played his best round in years .At the half-way point Andrew was 7 Points behind Chris

Good pairing for the Open, perhaps - taking the Better-Ball score they would have been close to 50 Points.

Comp 3 -  Summer Knockout

Nobby & Dicky overcame Neil and Dougie. All Square as they started on 18th, but Dougie's Drive up the left could not be found so it was 'reload' for  Neil.  Dickie & Nobby had a quick Team-Talk and played 5 pitching wedges to the Green to win the hole & the Match 1 Up.

The Captain took on the in-form Ian Thomas who was fresh from his blinding performance in the Challenge Cup, where he scored 40+ points at both Teignmouth and Dainton Park.   His form held firm as he dispatched Mark 5 & 4 .

Another tussle, although it was a little more relaxed - as talk was of Vintage cars & Cuban Cigars - resulted in Norman going 2 ahead in the last few holes to beat the ever-consistent  Nick Gabb.

Seniors Texas Scramble

Wednesday 23rd June

Well what a score by the winning team, 51 points left us scrolling through the metaphorical record books.

A few also needed calculators to work out that they had worked out their handicaps correctly.

Nearly as exciting than the  group of death with all the twists and turns, England v. Germany at Wembley, If 66 and 96 are any indicators next Tuesday could be a cracker.

Friday is a busy day and to help the club we have decided to have a very late on-line sign up after the Plate Final.
We will then hand back any unwanted times.

Please also sort out your entry pairs for our 4 BBB OPEN on 07 JULY.

We need your support to make this a successful day.

We will be having a raffle and a half way house, so would be immensely grateful for any donations.

We are also looking for sponsorship for all 18 holes, please ask any  organisations you know for anything from £50 to £20 it all goes to a really good local charity.

Big Crowd on 14th as Danny & Co chip to pin..but what a great day for Golf.

Albie strides off 10th after sinking putt..but Gordon rattled the pin with his previous shot

Martin & Dougie in Summer KO, where ML advanced 6 & 4  as James allows games to continue until June 30th..but if not played by then..decisions will have to be made...

sorry about the comments..but it did look rather confusing....
