Seniors Monthly Medal

Friday 18th June

A good turnout especially with a busy schedule In early June.

The weather was cool with a chilly Northerly wind, occasionally gusting to a 2 club difference.

Although helping on the 10th the white tee still caused many an issue.

Congratulations to all the winners and those securing birdies.  It will be interesting to review the handicap changes, with most of us drifting higher.

Love the Hole by Hole analysis you can see on Club Computer:-
Here are some examples, but the names may have been changed to protect the innocent...
  • Nobby had 10 on the 1st, but the were 18 Players WORSE than Double Bogey.
  • Dickie had 12 on the 3rd
  • Eric had 10 on 4th ( mind you Capt Covid had a 9)
  • Malc fought bravely to card a 15 on the 7th..." Fore Right"
  • Sweetie had  a  10 on the 15th

Thursday 18th June.

Thanks to our Divot Team - wait till you see the results in 11 Days time as light rain fell just after we finished a solid 3 Hours and completed the whole course with...over 11,000 filled and 2 truck loads of mix dispensed.
We seemed to lose 30% of our artisans around 10:00 until we realised that they had gone off to Roy's Lessons..but the rest of us soldiered on.
see what we got up to  (Pictures) ...after this update from the Captain...

Blog News Update

Thank you to all who turned up and divot filled the whole course.   The drop of rain should make the repaired divots grass over very quickly.

Nice to see Nick Hill up there, but just visiting as he walked  tentatively with Sciatica in one Hip and  deterioration in the other.

Also visiting was Martin Bargery, who is letting his Membership lapse for a few Months as he sorts out problems with his left hand,  that we have also seen with a couple of other Members. He needs surgery to free up one finger at the base, then more surgery for the next one..which all adds to the recovery time.

Super Seniors Cup and other stuff

Congratulations to Roger Stone on winning the Super Seniors Cup.

He played yesterday at Long Sutton and again today so does this prove that age is no limit.    There were also 6 separate Super Seniors who had birdies, well done everyone.

The Roll-Up was scheduled to be a 2 from 4 Stableford, but cards for a couple of those in the Super Seniors found their way into the draw by the captain, who thought we had a nice round 16.   This now dropped to 14 which was no good for a 4-ball so it was converted to  a 2 from 3 with Norman & Andy bringing up the rear.

Mark & Richard opted to play their Summer KO, as did Nobby & Good-Evans - who had booked a Tee for 10:06.

Apologies from JKP who had put on the Blog that Knockout would get priority at Roll-Up. They will certainly be accommodated where possible if there are  free slots , but you can't just walk up to the tee and ask to be let through...

Richard tees-off from Whites on first, getting 10 strokes from Mark, but it was a couple short as Mark ended up winning  3 & 1.

Similarly Nobby & John Evans played their match . JE fell behind on holes 6 through 13 as Nobby won 5 of them and halved 3 to deliver the coup-de-gras and Win 4 & 2. ( No Bill, it does not mean cut the grass )

I was out with the Vice Captain & Peter 2-knees. Peter started off telling us about his new 65 Inch OLED TV that was delivered Tuesday. Him and Jan decided that after spending 15 Months in Lockdown with a black-line through the Picture - they would buy a new one just as the Golf re-started.

Dave  had to bend one round the bell on the 4th as Pete strolled gaily ahead...

Peter on a good run as he Birdies 8th

Probably the 'Kiss of death' but decided to take a picture of Martin Leigh, Ken Trott and Martin Dew who carded around 85....but no reported "2's"

Monday 14th June 2021 - Boris announcement day...

Promises made by JKP - Summer KO Ind and Pairs Comps will be published on Blog. Handicaps will be clarified. Options to play will be clarified.

Date of publications of Friday  Qualifier will be published.

Monday Roll-Up -

Not much activity in Summer Knockouts all all lists have disappeared from Clubhouse,  So 6 Earlies ( or was it 7)..went out and played and Individual, with Ian Frost coming out on Top narrowly from Neil Cochran.   No money involved.

Ian Frost, Neil Cochran & Jerry Stephens in Group 1, followed by Tony Stenhouse, Terry Hackling  and Brian Marsh in Group 2.

2nd Roll-Up was building slowly with 7 players, when Martin Dew & Andy Reid agreed to join them, so voted for a Texas Scramble ( despite Bryan's Veto) - and drew out 3 Teams, No drives and Divide by 10 - no entry fee. All were teed off by 09:05 but very few other players on the course after us. Lots of Eggs of course who were out in numbers.

JKP was out Maurice Arnold and Andy Reid. We had a modest start for a Scramble and carded 5,3,5,5 etc - thinking we'd blown it ..but little did we know that that other Teams started  6,4,5,5 ( Farmer Bob) and   7,4,4,5 ( Ken Trott) - as all 3 players went OOB on 1st !!!

Andy Reid is beginning to play more with the Seniors, but a little embarrased about his handicap slipping to 38 - but hit some amazing shots   - like on the 10th where his Drive was dead centre and past the 150 Yard Markers, with his 2nd Shot reaching the Green - or on the 12th where his Drive was only 80 Yards short of the Green - his Handicap will tumble quickly if this continues. Despite this, our Team kept making Bogies , and with a nett 69 thought we'd be well last.

Maurice finally arrives at Andy's Drive on 10th...

Farmer Bob, Wurzle Gummige ( Nobby) and the big hitting Martin Leigh looked the favourites, but only had 6 shots .  Front 9 was better than others by 2 shots and the back-9 was way ahead with 34 Gross.  Bogies on 1st & 2nd was not the best start, but all Teams found scoring tricky in the sultry heat.

Farmer Bob with Hobson's choice on the 2nd

Team 3, Martin Dew, Ken Trott and Bryan Frost looked confident bringing up the rear, but we were not aware of their disaster on the 1st - Frosty going OOB ! - unheard of !!

Do you feel he's swinging a little fast ?....

When Farmer Bob checked the Cards, he found Teams 1 & 3  both carded 77 Gross with 8.1 and 8.3 shots respectively.  A wry smile came over his face when he realised that despite only getting 6 shots, their Gross 73 was low enough to sneak them into the lead with a Nett 67, 2 shots ahead of the others..but no-one anywhere the usual 59 that is required to win these events.

Await results of Norman and his Challenge Cup Team away at Downes Crediton.

Sorry to hear the news of us loosing a few players lately, and this note from the ever polite David Walgrove.

Gentlemen

I have now left CST as you are probably aware.

Just thought I should say a big thank you for your help and assistance over the years.

It has been much appreciated.

All the very best

David

Believe other casualties include the following , but we wish them well of course:-

Frank Martin, David Taylor, Mike King, Phil Hunt, John Twose...

but we welcome back Stewart Seery who was with us a couple of years ago.

CAPTAIN'S REPORT MONDAY 7TH JUNE 2021

Last night was a controversial Baftas night with some dodgy acceptance speeches, it reminded me that
unless you have previously been Captain, it will not be obvious how much work is done by a few and
who to thank.

In the first case John Wandless, he has been on holiday but still has managed to resolve the problems
caused by the computer crashing last week. Hence we can now publish the results of The Memorial
Trophy and today's Medalford. My second name check is Chris Gingell as he had to manually check the
cards today as the computer "said no" to our Medalford. Then of course Keith Branchflower has the
unenviable task of crediting all our accounts. On top of that John Pearce updates the blog and Bert
Robinson creates the press announcements, There are many more helpers, too many to mention doing
lots of unseen tasks that go to make our section what it is.
