2 from 3 Discard

An excellent golfing day as far as the weather was concerned with 39 seniors enjoying their day at the part some more than others. John Evans was insistent that I put something on this report about slow play by his friend Danny Dowell as apparently his team was more than 2 holes behind the 3B ahead of them. With a friend like Jonny, you don’t need enemies Danny LOL. We had problem with one of the cards and everyone was pushing for disqualification maybe they wanted revenge for years of being punished for the sort of error farmer Bob had made on his card. The second member of his team (Gordon Brent) with no handicap specified on the card. It was either a disqualification outright or be lenient and have Gordon play as scratch golfer and reduce their scores accordingly. To avoid additional work and make the outcome sound better, DQ was chosen. Bob & Co would have finished 2nd on count back had it not been for the error.

There were two 2’s paying £3.25 to each team members

The Winners were fortunate in that they were able to discard some low scores, such as 1 Point on the Par 5 4th Hole. Pearce was in trouble from the tee, Bob diddled his way up the Fairway, but landing on the bank on the right cost him heavily and also fell out, good drive from Dave . but modest 2nd  ( we called it a topped shot, but Dave had a much more elaborate description) - scrambled a 6 but with no shot, merely a single point Oops...

Dave murdered the 'Par 5' 15th, with a great 2nd shot right at the Pin. His effective 'Eagle 3' - gave us 5 Points, coupled with 3 points from his Partners edged them ahead.

2nd Place would have won if it was not a 'Discard' as they had to discard 4 & 5 point holes - They had to spend some time on the Card at the end as they had robbed themselves by not scoring 10 & 15 as par 5's.

Well done to everyone for such a slick day, with the course busy with a team from Wheathill. JW had published the Draw nice and early and we had 100 % turn up on time - makes it all run nicely and good separation in these tricky times as the number of Covid cases in South Somerset rises steeply from 9 to 23 in the past week..It's out there Gents, so let's keep it up and keep it out.

Trenches around periphery of 14th will hopefully minimize the damage to the Greens which are looking the best we've ever experienced...

      No-one mentioned the Temporary....

Bob was rock-steady and kept the Team on track allowing Muggo to bag a few Birdies...but alas      not the elusive '2'
Fancied Team with Gordon & Bob out together and one of the very rare  Twos seen on the cards and   a  handy looking score...Oh Yes, Mark was there too....

14th Temp looks fairly easy..but approach from the wrong angle and it is almost impossible

Yes, I've already met the Vice-Captain..had to stand in the naughty corner outside his house for assuming he actually used his £763 Apple iphone !¬

Steve is a local Builder and Brother in Law of Ian Thomas. Chatty Young-Man and certain to prove quite a character, I'm getting old, calling 59 Year-Olds 'Young-Men !

Not as old as one of our members that we haven't seen for a while, who can't tell
