Sad to report the news that Grace Light has passed away, our thoughts are with Senior Mike Light who has been by her side for the past few years as her health deteriorated.
WHS Handicaps
As we come nearer to Monday 2nd November, when the new WHS handicaps come into force, a little more detailed explanation is needed.
Currently CST Golf Club has a Standard Scratch Score (SSS) of 69 for both the White and Yellow tees.
Last year, as part of the introduction to new World Handicap System, our course was re-measured and re-assessed for level of difficulty from all three tees, white, yellow, and ladies red.
This will lead to the introduction of the Course Rating in November from each tee, replacing the SSS, which will become defunct.
The new Course Rating (CR) for CST White Tees is 68.6 ( This is the score a scratch golfer is expected to card under normal conditions)
The new Course Rating (CR) for CST Yellow Tees is 67.4 (Scratch golfer score)
Now onto Slope Rating (SR)
A Slope Rating is the number which indicates the relative playing difficulty of a course for bogey golfers, compared to scratch golfers. ( A Bogey Golfer is a player with a Handicap Index of about 20.0 for men; 24.0 for women).
It is the combination of the Course Rating(CR) and the Bogey Rating which calculates the Slope Rating (SR) of a set of tees.
A golf course of standard relative playing difficulty has a Slope Rating of 113 ( I’m not going to explain the calculation, too complex, even for bright and erudite seniors such as yourselves).
The Slope Rating for CST White Tees is 116
The Slope Rating for CST Yellow Tees is 115
Therefore CST Slope Ratings are slightly above standard.
The whole of the Somerset Golf Union golf clubs have been rated, along with the vast majority of all England Golf.
You can find out the ratings of the courses close to us by visiting.
www.ncrdb.usga.org New Search - Country England - Club Name Long Sutton - Submit.
Have fun, the higher the Course Rating and Slope Rating, the more difficult the course.
CST is rated as one of the easiest courses to play in Somerset. Don’t worry when going to so called harder courses, I’ll explain how you calculate your playing handicap in the next update in September
