Memorial Day

 Monday 17th August 2020

Memorial Day

Notes for Tomorrow:-

The Forecast is horrible - but just in case we can play, believe the Captain's plan is as follows.

4BBB Roll-Up - so out in Fours.

07:45 & 08:02 hope gets filled by earlies making arrangements and leaving us list of who is playing.

Captain will be there to do an 08:00 Draw for the 4   3 slots 08:26, 34, 42 & 50 - so plenty of room to go out nice and early if you can get up there.

Then gap as 3 Tee Times have been booked by non participating Members.

Then we have 7 slots 09:14 through 10:02 so JKP / Vice Captain happy to hang back and add to draw as later arrivals appear.

Tons of room for everyone.

Unfortunately there will be no reception facilities up at the Club with the Marquee closed until 10:00 so we will be stood out in the rain once more - so please be patient as it is not easy trying to collect the names ( as we are legally obliged to do under Covid) - If you intend to come up grumpy - then maybe consider staying at home and kicking the dog !

Notice for this Friday’s Seniors Championship

Please note that there is a maximum handicap  allowance of 28 for this competition. Should you decide not to participate, call the pro shop and have your entry removed.

The Memorial Trophy is to remember those that have passed before us through the Seniors Section. God bless their souls and I hope we don’t add to their numbers anytime soon. Keep well and enjoy life.

Another foggy day with 20 minutes delayed tee times we had an impressive 63 seniors playing today’s 3B Memorial Trophy. After 20 minutes of delay, the sun came out, seniors started smiling and enjoying their golf once again.  I won’t say much about the winning team, as one of the members didn’t have a single point contributed to the team’s totals after 7 holes. That wasn’t because the other two beat him for the points first, but he was simply useless at playing golf. Well done to my two playing partners for carrying me for those 7 holes. There was an error on one of the entries whereby a wrong score was entered on the computer and they could not correct the error. Barrie informed of the error and I have adjusted their score down to 81 from 83. Fortunately it didn’t have any consequences on the overall placings.

There were three 84 pointers and the better back 9 scores decided the orders. With only two 2’s earning each member £5.25

Today is when we remember those that have passed before us through the Seniors Section and we hope you can share some of your memories with us - we will be pleased to add them to the Blog with your comments;-

David writes about Keith Harper:-

Sandra and I had gone to Lyme for a change of scenery .

We left that elevated car park above the harbour and we came face to face with Keith and his wife....

I am really really bad on names..faces fine

I froze on the fact I should have introduced Sandra to them but he said immediately,

" hello David and how lovely to see you again Sandra "......

6 months earlier at a Seniors dinner he had met Sandra for 5 minutes .....and he was already not well.

Amazing. Really stays with me.

 Such a waste John.

Cheers, David

The tales about Reiner are legendary and numerous:-
East German Olympic Boxer who escaped across the wall.
Worked down at the Wildlife park where Bim & Frank also worked. Never knew what game we were playing, like in a Texas Scramble once when we were striding own the Fairway for the chosen ball, when Reiner's ball flew over our heads into the rough on the left - so we all did an about-turn and went back to play from the bomb crater 100 yards behind us !

Peter Smith

Richard's Team came close with 81 points, as  a zero on 3rd  set them back, but Rod's run of 5 straight Pars on 5 thro 9 recovered the score.. It was Richard's advice to JKP on 18th that was the final nail in the coffin.
"Just aim at the Clubhouse" - he said as JKP played from under the trees. Unfortunately it was straight at the locker-room and not the Pro Shop end..and ran under the trees, across the path and OOB . With Richard putting his approach into the greenside bunker and taking 4 more to hole out, a comfortable 84 dwindled to 81 and out of the money.   Rod played rock steady the whole game
This chip to green was on target but a tad too long as it sailed through the back and nil points for Rod.
