Sunny Day of Pairs Playing

Did you get Monday update from Alex ( Monday 18:00) ?
We can send if required.

Having played the Course for the first time yesterday I was amazed to see how all that 'Winter Damage' has simply vanished.  With just Dave being active for the past 8 weeks, concentration has been on Greens & Fairways, which are really great. Therefore,  we have now areas that are a little tricky, such as the old bunker humps, first cut , rough etc with an excellent chance of losing balls.
As we are instructed by the Authorities to play more 'casual' Golf, I'd like for the Capt / Committee to formally adopt the new Local Rule that is available to us and clearly explained on the back of our Score card. It's the "Stroke and Distance" rule so that if you go OOB, can't find your ball etc - you may take a 2 shot penalty and place a ball as defined . This saves walking back to tee etc and ruining the spacing we now have - and of course keeps things moving nicely as rounds are only taking about 3 hours which is wonderful.

So if you hit a Tee-shot, for example which looks ok, but you can't find the ball. Your next shot will be Shot 4...but you can continue towards the Flag without delay.

So Captain - we await your decision !

Golf Sites explain the rules in detail...

..a new Local Rule which provides an alternative to stroke and distance relief is in effect. This Local Rule is recommended for casual play and not for competitions involving highly-skilled players. If it is in effect, for two penalty strokes, you can estimate the spot where your ball is lost or went out of bounds and then find the nearest fairway edge that is not nearer the hole than the estimated spot. You can drop a ball in the fairway within two club-lengths of that fairway edge point, or anywhere between there and the estimated spot where your ball is lost or went out of bounds.

By the way, I love the new Cups that hold the Flag, with just a 2 inch drop into the hole so ball can easily be picked-up without touching the Flag. Maybe we should use these for our 'Winter Golf' when  7 inches of icy-cold water awaits you !

This one from Trevor was a bit scary....

Pics from Norman
..but this shot of Nobby crossing Canal Street in Ilminster was even more scary...

and our first viewing of Bryan's range of Face Masks, he calls it 'The Monica'

..apparently she is a chain-smoker
