March Hare Friday - As we cannot be certain about the Course Conditions, it would be appreciated if you could be flexible as we may have to shuffle a little if Buggies are banned and certain members will simply be unable to play.

Axe-Cliff
Not much to report as after 1 hole their Captain suggested if it was a good idea that we go in after 6 holes as it would give the catering staff to prepare the meal way ahead of schedule. I accepted the offer with a massive smile on my face and that is what we did. It was the test of which waterproof was the one that lived up to its name and apparently none did so. We were soaked through the 3 or 4 layers that we were wearing.

They kindly gave us all a free round of golf voucher valid until August 1st. It was a nice touch on their behalf

Good start to the Season, however, as I'm recording it as an Away Draw!

What can we say about today, definitely a Game of 2 halves.

At 08:00 8 Earlies braved the falling rain and set out as per the programme to play a 4BBB.

At 08:30 around 12 Late Arrivals sat wondering what to do as the forecast was gloomy and our Leadership was over at Axe-Cliff as Nobby giggled about how horrible it must be down on the coast.

As decision time came, Steve, Norman, Danny , Bryan & John W all withdrew. The remainder was divided amongst 9, 15 or 18 Holes so unable to play a 4BBB they went for a 9-Hole Scramble and then see what happened as they strolled up the 18th.  In the event they hit a beautiful dry window from about 09:10 until 10:45 as we strolled up the 6th and the drizzle resumed - so the decision was obvious - Coffee after the 18th and 9 holes was enough.

With Bert, Richard & Chris in Team 1, Bert licked his lips as the 77 total Handicap gave then 7.7 shots when divided by 10 ( we kept it simple).  Team 2 was JKP, Nobby & Dicky  who had just 1 shot less, so we agreed Bert could have a 1 shot head start.

Prepared for the worst..but luckily it never came.

Bert had a Gross 40 as Nobby's Trio had a 39 so the massive kitty was shared, £1 each.

Now we won't dwell on the 5th hole, as JKP & Dickie were deciding which Drive to take as both were down by the fairway Bunker. The decision was taken out of their hands, however, as the crunch of a 3-wood broke the silence and flew over their heads to the Green. Nobby had walked up and played his ball, so it was a long walk back up the fairway to near the 150 marker to play from where Nobby had come to rest -oops !

Now we are not ignoring the earlies as they were exemplary today and did everything right. Played the full 18 Holes and all registered good scores in pretty soggy conditions.

Scores for the 4 teams were 31, 35, 38 and a brilliant 42 by the winners.  21 out,21 back as if it was a normal day.

They took all the booty with £4.00 and and extra £1 for their Birdie on the 18th.  Roger & Mark had the other Birdie on 5th for the other half of the  Birdie Pot,

Andy Beal & Mick Hill 31 Points
Roger Davis & Mark Sanders 35 Points
Ian Griffiths & David Asquith 38 Points
Gordon Brent & Jeremy Blackburn 42 Points.

David & Ian had a blank on the 18th -which was to prove expensive.

Notes : Jeremy is available for March Hare on Friday- very happy to play with Roger Hinds and he will be up there from 08:00 ready to go.

Mick Hill is listed as 'Left the Club' on Seniors Page , whereas he is a fully paid up members and definitely still here.

All Monies paid-out, although JKP seems to have gained 50p.

Earlies were not shy in giving the late roll-up plenty of stick and we had to take it on the chin for being whimps !

Ian & Jenny up for a Coffee. Did you all know ( Ladies) that the Club is basically a Public Bar & Coffee Shop. Where else can you meet up for a chat, unlimited parking, good views, good food and a warm welcome from Penny, Ryan and the Staff up there.

Bryan Frost has now successfully relocated to Yeovil, with his new

Apartment 27, Wyndham Court, Newton Road, Yeovil, BA21 4HB

(This is correct Number, please check if he has given you a different one over the past few days.)
Now I'd hate to think you would all be horrible enough to send him a letter or card of  ' Happy New Home' nature , although it would do much to impress  his new army of lonely Widows that he now finds himself amidst !
