Today we had 36 Seniors turned up to play 4 ball Medalford (8 early starters and 28 late starters).
of which the early
starters shattered the scoring records of having a differential score of 5 and
10 respectively (15).
Those names consistently top the chart week in week out
and the handicap secretary has his eyes on them. One member of the winning team
had a score of net 9 under par for the 9 holes that he had scored on. Prizes
were awarded to 3 teams, two of which had identical score of 18 and were
declared as joint runners up

From what we heard, this was a popular format. The Teams were drawn as 4-Balls.
The First Drawn Pair played the First 9-Holes as a Medal, then the back 9 as a Stableford.
The other pair, still part of the same team, played the other way round, Stab then Medal so there was plenty to keep your attention.
We think the safest way to mark this was with 2 cards, one of each pair, so you have a 'check' at the end, although this card was fine because all the Gross Scores were correctly recorded.
At the end, each pair subtracted their Stableford Score from their Medal Score to reach a Number. The other Pair did the same and then they were added together.
Thus a 9 Hole Par score for the Medal would be 36, minus 18 Points for the Stableford = 18;
As you can see from the Winning Card, Gordon & David had 32 Medal, minus 22 Stableford = just 10, or 8 Under Par.
Dave & Neil had even better with 28 minus 23 - an amazing 5 !!-- or 11 Under Par.
So on each hole, the ideal differential is low or even negative, as you can see on the 2nd where David made a Par 3 with 2 shots..so a nett 1. Subtract David's 3 Points for his Par makes minus 2 !
I'll end here as I can see eyes glazing over..
...but good fun Captain, well done Sir .
Excellent 2nd Place to separate the earlies |
Disaster on 4th...the Score could have been even better ! |
