Final Match & Roll-Up Report

Update from Pro Shop:-
You should all have seen Email from Mark Atkin on personal buggies. We are aware Greenstaff have pictures of places you have been driving around and it can look bad on muddy days. Do you always have to drive right up to the Tees on 9th & 10th ?  Toss Smith sets an excellent example as he barely touches the Fairway during his round, driving nicely along the edge.  On cold mornings there's   no hiding the evidence ! - It's a long dark Winter ahead of us and the more days we can use personal buggies  the better fun for all of us.
( If you do not have the Email we can re-send).

Update on Mick Aldridge who slipped and fell ( Wednesday) on the bridge over the ditch on 10th.
Talking with Marie, Mick was a bit shook-up but no  lasting affect from the fall. He is, however, still recovering from his breathing problems COPD  - which made it difficult to get up and make it back to the Clubhouse.

Also heard that Jenny Hall has been back in Hospital and having difficulty getting cleared up to return home, I believe I heard the word Sepsis , but may have that wrong.

Texas Scramble at a very wet Cricket, by Farmer Bob.

Yer Tiz my lovers, baint fair that we az the worst of eet az 20 Rolled up for a Texas Scramble. Weather was dreek and I for one wudn't have send my worst pig out in. But, to be fair we aze all the gear so out we trucked.

Tiz a shame az it turned owt that I ad to DQ several teams that did not complete thec course. So that took out best part of a dozen of em !

Now ye knows I looks very carefully and someat about thec Frost/Bonney/Brent Card didn't add up for I...for there 'baint enough drives recorded under Mr Ian Frost, he just ad 4 of em which just baint enough as ye knaws. So that's another one gone. Twaz a piddy as them 'ad the best score.

best of the remains wuz Mark Sanders, Martin Bargery and Jerry Stephens 'ooze card was nigh perfic with 67.17 so I gives them £4 quid each for their efforts.

that just left Chris Ginger and I, as there wuz no one else,  to score 70.5 and we cum in second with £4.00 as we wuz just 2 .

Two Teams ad a 2, so thec team I DQ'd earlier - so Ian Frost and Co can ave £1.33 each as can ( no matter they wuz DQ as separate pot on money) - the over 2 wuz Mark Sanders and his muckers so they can add another quid or so to their four to give 'em £5.33 which 'aint too bad I say.

That be it reely, says I,  Farmer Bob.

Match Report v Enmore Park 25th Oct

As J. P has reported it is quite sad for me to note that today's match against Enmore Park was

my last official game as Seniors Captain. Probably just as well as I was running out of after

dinner jokes. First of all I would like to thank all the players who have supported the teams

this year, a smallish group considering our numbers but all have represented us with great

commitment and enthusiasm. Not once was I let down with no shows and throughout the year

I have had nothing but compliments from the visiting teams about our club, course, food and

people.

Would have been nice to finish on a winning note but Enmore are a difficult team to beat on

home soil and we succumbed five points to three. Like our home fixture against them four of

the games were decided on the last green and could have gone either way.

(Please note  below Capt and Vice did rather well)

For the record:-

Peter Spencer-Farr/ Derek Gardener Won 2 & 1

Mark Cording/ Paul England Lost 1 Down

John Pearce/ Ed Paoloni Lost 8 & 7

Roger Davis/ Dave Mugridge Lost 1 Down

John MacOmish/ Alan Chance Halved

Barrie Heath/ Lyndsey Gage Halved

Mike Hone/ Stuart Pope Lost 2 & 1

Ian Housham/ James Siabi Won 3 & 1

On the year we Played 27 Winning 12 and Losing 15 ( two were rained off.)

Last year we Played 27 Won 10 Lost 13 and Drew 4 ( four were rained off.)

Very similar stats and follows the same pattern of winning at home and losing away

however with more wins I would like to claim an improvement year on year.

Jury's out.

Peter Spencer-Farr Seniors Captain.

Edmundo & JKP came up against 2 ex-7 handicap players, that now play off 11 & 17 !! - One player started 4,3,4,3 , three under his Par so we were 3 down after 4, despite Ed making a nice 3 on the 2nd but with no shot. His partner then took over 4,5,2 as their 4BBB would have been 24 points on the front 9. The partner got a nett 2 on the 12th and then the 11 handicapper got a real 2 on the 15th. Captain was not best please as we were the day's biggest losers, sorry skipper.

Didn't enjoy the drive home as decided to go the back-way, not a great idea for the first time in the dark & rain, with half of Taunton avoiding the M5 roadworks coming the other way,

Talk about leaving, one Senior was up for a sad Goodbye as Gordon Bareham is heading off to Berkshire where he and Phillipa have been summonsed by the Family to spend more time with them and their growing Clan.

Dear CST Seniors

“ I was hoping to say farewell to my fellow golfers at the senior’s AGM but the house sale and move has happened relatively quickly so I will not be at the AGM and therefore send my apologies.

I have enjoyed my golf during the nine years membership and have been fortunate to play under some good Senior’s Captains. Equally fortunate that in recent years under the ownership of Steve and Jackie the course and facilities have improved beyond measure to make it a great place to play golf. I hope all the members appreciate what the Hill family have done and what good value our membership fee is. The C.St T. membership fee has been the best value investment in my annual budget.

But it is you, the Senior’s members that have made my time playing here so enjoyable. I have made many true golfing friends whose company has made playing the eighteen holes such a pleasure. An eclectic bunch of men with very different backgrounds who treat each other as equals. It doesn’t matter what you did in your working life, we are all the same now we are retired and playing the wonderful game of golf together. My Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings will not be quite the same in future.

I have some wonderful memories: not so much of my golfing achievements, there were few of those, but of the lively conversation and banter ( should that be “piss taking “ ) as we hacked our way round the delightful Somerset course. I will certainly miss this and the members.

Good fortune to you all. Hopefully I will return for the odd game in the future.

Gordon.
