4BBB Stableford
Match versus Axe Cliff at Home
Our first match this season was away to Axe Cliff G.C. where we were defeated, in
the rain and wind by the score of 4 to 2.
Today in glorious sunshine we reversed that result by winning by the same margin.
Axe Cliff were very complimentary about our club, course and catering and are hopeful that changes afoot at their own club will see similar improvements.
A fun day was had by all which culminated with them entertaining us with a golf related ditty to the tune of 'Men of Harlech' Could have the wrong song however
it was well done and something different to the usual joke.
For the record:-
Peter Spencer-Farr/ Mark Cording Won 5 and 4
Paul England/ Bryan Frost Won 4 and 2
Roger Stone/ Bob Barrow Won 3 and 2
Barrie Heath/ Frank Martin Won 3 and 2
Martyn Leigh/ Ian Fielder Lost 8 and 7 (oops)
Roger Davis/ Derek Gardener Lost 1 Down
Result Won 4 and 2.
Big thanks to Bryan Frost for playing despite very bad bruising to his arm and unbelievably
he won the prize for nearest the pin on the sixteenth. A special feat worth mentioning was
yet another eagle registered by Bob Barrow, this time a '2' on the fifth hole.
Well done team, next match is Brean G.C. Away this coming Thursday.

What a lovely quiet Roll-Up with just 12 Early and 14 Late as a Match versus Axe-Cliff was to follow.
Sun shone brightly and course was looking great, but we knew rain was due late afternoon.
James took firm control of the Roll Up as off we went like well trained animals stepping onto Noah's Arc, Two by Two.
We all felt we were playing OK..that was of course until the 19th when we glanced upon the score of Roger & Gordon..47 Points Phew !!!
JKP was nearly out of pocket as a superb 6 Iron off the 2nd tee clattered the pin, but sadly bounced off 12 feet.
Our pair had reached the 5th when Dave Mugridge had a text from home which necessitated him leaving us for a worrying medical event.
Bravely Chris Andrews battled onwards and rather than slowing down he stepped it up 6 gears and managed Par scores on 9th, 10th, 12th, 15th & 18th to build a total of 41 and snatching 3rd place from Nobby & Eric - earning Dave a crispy £4.00 in absentia !
Bob Rees coined a new expression when he compared our score with that of Chris & Dave - he said "We have been Mugged - and Mugridge wasn't even there "
The Greens were extremely slick today and balls were running a mile. I always fear for Handicaps in these conditions as our 20 plus Handicappers seem to be able to amass great scores by just being straight and with zero hazards twixt Tee & Green on our course. It would be difficult to replicate this on most Courses , which is part of the reasons we keep getting hammered !
We hadn't realised Ken Trott had been away for 5 weeks having another chunk cut from his neck, but hopefully they "Got it All" as they say in the Surgery business. Maurice was also absent as he awoke with chest pains & breathing problems - but looks to be OK as the Doctor found a Lighter in his PJ pocket and he had just slept awkwardly.
Once again we were on the 4th looking for balls OOB, as Bob Rees spotted his about 20 feet past the small tree and reached in to retrieve it...only to find he was encroaching on territory claimed by Vespula vulgaris who proceeded to sting him 3 or 4 times . It was so bad he even gave up on the ball, so if you know Bob, you'll appreciate how hard that was. This is now a 2nd nest in that area, so please beware if you are OOB .

Oh Good, you are still reading.... Keep watching for changes to Wednesday Jubilee Cup Scramble as we are aware of quite a few changes and may need 'spares'.
Mick Aldridge has had to cancel and I think Colin has taken that spot. Maurice pulled out as a precaution and after looking at today's cards, Chris Basterfield grabbed his old mate Chris Andrews as a replacement. I also heard that Terry Rankin was grabbed by another Team, but not sure where. Please make sure Pro Shop are aware of any changes and they will provide spares where required. I know Ronnie was looking for a game, as was Martyn Putland.
