Match Report vs Taunton & Pickeridge 02/10/2018

We travelled to Taunton today for our return fixture, having beaten them at home 6-0
I was expecting a response from them on their own turf, talking of the course I was a bit surprized that their fairways were as bear if not worse than ours, and with the course being on clay  there were plenty of cracks left from the very dry conditions., but the greens were fine although difficult with the pin positions + trying to read them.

We were entertained very well today, and the food was good, but not keen on starting at 1pm, by the time we had our meal it was about 8:30 before I got home, and it was dark before we left.

Nearest the pin on the 138 yard 6th was James Siabi who was the only CST player on the green, a bit surprising on such a short hole but it was very easy to roll off both sides.

    Results

James Siabi/ Stuart Pope                  Lost 1 Down
Roger Stone/ Richard Holmes          Lost 2&1
Barrie Heath/ Ian Griffiths               Won 5&4
David Mugridge/ Paul Matthews    Lost 3&1
Roger Davis/ Barry Singleton           Won 4&3
George Wallace/ John MacOmish   Halved

                     Match Result       Lost  3 ½  – 2 ½

Really a good result at T&P, over the two matches we won 8 ½ to 3 ½

B. Heath  (Captain)
Also from Captain - chance of a lovely day out at Sherborne - worth £160.00 if you turned up to play with a 4-ball - bids in post box in lockers room or verbally / email to Captain please.

..back to Nick's report...

This promises to be a momentous week in the recent history of CST Seniors. The Avalon League  team, already winners of their division, play at home in the Semi Final of the Avalon Trophy against Enmore Park on Thursday. We wish them well.

Bearing in mind that there was also a match against Taunton and Pickeridge yesterday ( lost 3/12 to 2 1/2) , plus on Friday the Dorset County Seniors International Invitational (  where we have 12 Entries)...the fact that we managed 45 members at the rollup proved what a healthy membership we have.

Today’s competition, played in ideal conditions, produced one outstanding score. Chris Hiam managed to drag Danny Dowell around to record a net score almost 5 shots better than their nearest rivals.

Your correspondent played in a fourball where there was just a little too much banter, leaving us one place short of the money.

There were 13 birdies, each paying £1.68 per team.

Tony Stenhouse played the October Rolling Stableford scoring 30 pts.

Plenty of the usual Canadian stories going around. See the NR for Andy & Phil.  Phil was still searching fruitlessly for his ball on the left of the 4th..when Andy cracked his 2nd shot..which unfortunately went over the fence..but they ran out of time looking for Phils' and called it a day !

Dave & Mac has just as much fun when Dave was still walking towards his tee shot...Mac, in his own little world proceeded to play shot 2 and shot 3..oh dear !
There was much debate on the subject in their foursome , as Dave then played his 2nd and walked across to join the discussion. The Group decided that as Mac had played a shot out of order, they should take a Penalty and Dave replay the shot. but he played it from where the 3rd had landed..so to correct this he walked back and played another ….then they got lost with penalty score etc  so left the score blank, seeking advice.
In the absence of Farmer Bob, it seemed to me that as Dave was still effectively in the 4BBB part of the game ( only played 1 shot) - he was entitled to continue with his ball without penalty - but Mac's was out of it.

Good luck to the Fishing Group Tomorrow - I'm sure there will be a few tales to tell.

Richard was also hard at work organising another Pie-Night up at the Club - think they are planning to do it so we can roll into the Bingo/Quiz or other event that will be concurrent...watch out for update.
Richard's Monthly raffle was drawn Monday, think Phil Hunt won the Gin, Clive Fisk was 2nd and I can't recall the Third...

...so teeing off from the front lower level will give you zero chance of going over the trees. JKP hit a boomer yesterday and ball was finally found through the green heading towards the 18th path....better wait for the bell from this forward position....

Norman not doing so well at the Tatworth horse racing Tuesday night...

..and the usual characters dress for the part - but we raised around £200 for local charities...as Sue & Rosemary were also part of organising group...
