Cyder Cup Week Monday 15th October 2018
The Fourballs

The pressure was on the Captain from 07:30 as early starters queued by the Pro Shop awaiting a decision. Groundstaff had declared that play would not be permitted until the colour of the 4th flag could be seen from the Pro Shop and buggies would not be permitted until after a 10:00 evaluation.

People started to drift away as we were in the doldrums for the next hour, with little hope of an improvement and the Captain had little choice but to cancel Day 1 and declare a 'half' with the Vice.

about 25 hung around for another hour in the hope that things would improve and we finally got the OK from Harrison who could see the Red Flag around 09:30.

With Buggies still being banned Mick A departed and Roger & Colin bravely decided to attempt to walk the 15 holes that would be played - omitting 8,9,10.

Teams were drawn and as it happened 4 of the lowest hadicappers were all in different teams. Because of this we abandoned any issue with the number of drives, but retained the handicaps - which in the event did nothing as the gross scores of teams would have seen the same order as the nett scores.

In this type of visibility, we have to be realistic and searching for balls to get drives in would have slowed things down and left teams in vulnerable areas unnecessarily. - Great discipline was maintained with clear-calling and bell-ringing as Fairways and Greens were vacated. By maintaining this standard of play, the management will continue to be comfortable allowing  Seniors to play in such conditions,

Team 4 were disadvantaged when J-Mac left them after the 7th - but to be fair, it was pretty grotty by then and these Scots are delicate flowers as we all know. John's 50p was donated to the Staff Tips Box.  The real reason for team 4 falling short, was , of course, due to the Kitchen being closed for deep cleaning and Roger Hinds being unable to partake in his usual breakfast,

Had to dock Farmer Bob 1 stroke as their maths was poor in adding the 4 handicaps - making it 72 instead of 62.

4 Birdies and just 1 bogey on 3rd Hole

 3 Birdies but 2 Bogeys , on 7th & 12th

 2 Birdies and 1 Bogey on 3rd

3 Birdies but 4 Bogeys on 6th, 13th, 14th & 15th -
but just 3 players

Tricky shot to 14th, but Mark almost made it to facilitate the Par.

List on Notice Board for Pie Night on Wed 24th - a great little Social Mixer if you are new to the Club and get your Wife/Partner & Family to put a few faces to names.

Also Captain's Dinner on the 2nd of November is building nicely - onto sheet 3 already but I'm sure Barrie & Lorraine would love to see a few more of you up there - and it gives  us a chance to thank The Captain & his Lady for  all their work this year.
