Rollup 070918 Canadian Greensomes

Canadian Greensomes

7th September 2018

On a day when 12 of our finest were striving to beat Vivary, after we passed George & Peter bullying them on the 5th as George waved an apology to the group ahead....

….and John Chance was back to playing....

Captains Match Report vs Vivary 07/09/2018

We entertained Vivary at home today on another sunny day, although we started off with a cool breeze, but still great golfing weather.

We had John Chance playing his first match for some while, he kindly stepped in after a withdrawal, as John Macomish had an appointment in the afternoon to try and sort his back out.

The course was still in good shape after the Open on Wednesday, just a bit of growth on the greens since then.

Our nearest the pin was won by Dave Mugridge on the 16th.

RESULTS

Barrie Heath/ Barry Singleton               Won 4&2
David Mugridge/ John Chance               Won 4&2
John Wandless/ Roger Davis                  Won 1up
Roger Stone/ Andy Beale                         Halved
George Wallace/ Peter Spencer-Farr     Won 6&4
Ian Griffiths/ Nobby Hodder                    Lost 2&1

              Match Result= Won  4 ½ - 1 ½

As we drew away, the overall result was a win 7 ½ to 4 ½

As the Long Sutton home match has for now been postponed due to the cock-up with the Course maintenance being brought forward a week, our next match is not until Oct 2nd away
to T&P.

B. Heath (Captain)
..and even more action

CST were represented at Tiverton G C  today.  70 pairs taking place,  Fred Oliver with partner coming out on top in 26th place,  John Evans/Norman Markby in 43rd place.,  Phil Dewar and Ray Gudge in 46th place, with Alan Chance and Stuart Pope taking 49th place.   Course was in fantastic condition but all found reading the greens very tricky.

The most strange pairing today were Phil and Ray playing with Michael Disney and partner who came second overall,  Michael was a neighbour farmer of Bob Barrow, and also a member of Tiverton GC at the same time, and told Phil and Ray a few stories.. ….Michael and his partner Gerald are planning to visit CST to play a round with Phil and Ray and will let Bob know when.   Tiverton is well a worth a visit if you have not played it.

roving reporter   G-Ray
back to the Canadian Greensomes…. …..when the runners up were cursing their luck to lose by 0.13 (not realising that the winners 4 putted the 17th), when Toss Smith played a lob wedge from 50 yards to within a foot of the 15th, when Des Denning wanted it to be known that he is a thoroughly nice chap, 34 members played Canadian Greensomes. No more long sentences. But it was relaxing after the pressures of Wednesday’s Open.

Your correspondent had the pleasure of playing with Toss Smith and watching Andrew Chambers’ (5) mighty technique, ably assisted by Richard Agar (34)

Today was a good day for scoring birdies as there only 4 each paying £4.20 per team.

Well done to the early Birds for letting Geoff & Vic play through as a 2-ball in a buggy - good etiquette and allowed Geoff to get home just in time for his budgie's funeral.

..not such good news for another buggy group, Brian & Bryan whose Club Buggy conked out.

Sid claimed his raffle prize from Wednesday, still a few more in the cabinet...

Many thanks to Trevor for donating his football winnings to my Boy Scout Kenya Trip - when he bet on Brighton finishing higher than Newcastle...all I need now is the cash from an un-named losing punter !
