Battle of Britain Stableford
Report 22/08/2018
Apart from
a fine drizzle early on, the competition was played in good conditions by 67
seniors.
On this day
every year, we support The Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) who support serving
and ex serving members and their
families. In 1929, in the Sergeants Mess at RAF Andover, three men named Vernon
Goodhand, Joe Pearce and Warrant Officer Bartlett met to discuss the formations
of a single organisation dedicated to the welfare of serving and ex serving RAF
personnel, one which would replace the many smaller organisations that had
grown to keep former servicemen in touch since the end of the First World War.
I heard
today that we have a new Ant & Dec, namely Ted Bryden & Stuart Pope,
who were seen riding together in a buggy!! We’ll have to find out more about
this.
So the only
money paid out today was for the two’s comp, £11 each to Maurice Arnold, Brian
Hodder and Keith Branchflower, who said that will go towards his fuel bill for
the last 5 weeks touring around France.
Thanks to
you today, we are glad to hand over to RAFA £134.00.
So, to the
