Waltz 3,2,1 Stableford
So we start another week with the temperatures heading towards 30 Degrees and it felt close to that in the cosy corners of the course, but thankfully a cool breeze wafted across our now very brown fairways, although the greens are beautiful.
Both Captain & Vice were on duty against Taunton and the Captain did ask us to push the Team list for Mon 30 versus Axe-Cliff, but I see a few names have been added already.
We now have confirmation that the family of Keith Potter have booked Horizons Room up at CST
( Posh name for room above squash court)- so with the Funeral over at Taunton for 14:30 on Aug 7th - should coincide nicely with Invitation Day people who should be able to pop-in and pay their respects.
Match Report
Another fine win against
potentially strong opposition in the form of Taunton & Pickeridge Golf
Club. Six matches to nil shows how strong a team we are able to field.
Yes it is at home but the margin of victory is still impressive. This was another hot day with the ability to hold the greens at a premium. On the first and with a distance
of some 270 yards to go our opposition stated he could not reach and promptly knocked it through the team in front, who were putting out, to off the back of the green.
Despite the loss T & P did express how much they enjoyed the day, how well the coarse played and also enjoyed the meal and the general ambiance. We do have a
return fixture in early October when they hope to get their revenge. I know Capt Barrie will argue that as Vice I have hosted mostly home games but I will boast that
on my watch not only has the weather been superb but except for the narrow away loss at Weymouth I am undefeated!! Probably pure luck but then again perhaps I have the Midas
Touch?
Result: Roger Stone/ Barrie Heath Won 1 Up.
Ian Griffiths/ Mick Aldridge Won 4 & 2
Dave Mugridge/ Richard (bandit) Hall Won 2 & 1
Richard had two pars and a birdie in the first five holes!!!
Peter Spencer- Farr/ John Twose Won 3 & 2
Roger Davis/ Barry Singleton Won 6 & 5
George Wallace/ John MacOmish Won 2 & 1
Roger Stone won the nearest to the pin for the home team on the 9th but unfortunately no-one for the opposition managed to hit the 16th for their bottle of wine.
Probably summed up their day.
Next match is home to Axciffe G. C. next Monday, am I right not to fancy their chances?
Peter Spencer- Farr Vice Capt.

12 out Early and 21 out late, so not big numbers but all worked out very well.
In my own simple mind I was trying to work out why scoring today would be different to scoring on Friday, where we had a 2 from 3 Stableford - but it proved quite a bit lower with scores ranging from 63 through 80 - Par Score being 72.
The 2 from 3 produced 12 teams over 80 with a couple in the 90's with the same Par Score of 72.
Looking below it becomes obvious where the formats separate - the 3 to count holes.
Scores there had a variation from 23 right up to 38 from the elite Team.
It can't all be down to John Sweet being missing !
Best Score on One Hole was by Tricky Nicky, Robin & Bryan who amassed 9 Points on the 13th Hole. Was it a simple 3+3+3 - of course not !!
Robin had a 3 for 3, Bryan had a 3 for 4 and Trick Nicky had a 5 for 2 .
Nick's Team had come with 80 Points but lost 1 on the 13th when claiming a 7 for 1 - which was unfortunate as they had easily the best back 9- 45 Points !
Farmer Bob was kept busy doing all the checks and tweaking a point or two here & there, but overall he was impressed by the standard of card completion.

I very nearly made it into a Team for the Jubilee Scramble, with Ian Fielder & Frankie..but by the time I had walked back to the locker room - Martin Leigh had grabbed it.
Talking about Frankie & Ian...
Rumour reports that Frank won 2 &1 after saying 18 Times "Sorry Ian, Didn't see where than one went " |
