Challenge Cup Report from Sherborne GC

39 seniors played an individual stableford today at Sherborne, in glorious sunshine, for the second of the three challenge cup venues. One sharp shower did little to dampen spirits and afforded welcome relief from the heat. Sherborne is a true test of golf with very slick greens. They have a current problem with brown almost yellow looking fairways. These had been heavily treated with fertilizer which due to the recent lack of rain had affected the grass. They played perfectly however and were not an excuse for some of the modest scores.

Just in passing, today we had two no-shows neither of which advised us of absence. Although we did not, on this occasion, have to pay a green fee the £5 per head food ordered in advance has to be funded depleting the charity money. At our age we are becoming forgetful but please when you add your name for events put them straight into diaries and watch for notifications both on the seniors’ board and blog.

Today’s winners of nearest the pin were :-
Alan Chance on the 7th

   Roger Stone
   on the 9th

    Mike  Mosser
   on the 15th.

They all receive a sleeve of balls.

If like me you have not registered points yet don’t despair we still have East Devon  GC on Thurs 21st June and anyone who has entered any of the venues can be included in the plate competition which will be played on the finals day Friday 29th June.

Thanks to Bob for yet again sorting out the score cards and for not finding an excuse to DQ anybody.

Barrie is away for a week now for a well-earned rest in the sun. I told him to have a great time and not to drink too much. He told me to make my mind up!
See Full League Table on Challenge Cup Page.

Peter Spencer-Farr (Vice Capt).

It was so hot Bob Rees stripped for action.

Others chose the more refined option...

Thanks to Norman for all the Preparatory Work and Mike Light as usual for securing the venues.
