28 April 2018

Saturday 28th April
The Weekend build-Up to a busy Week.

Tough to follow the success of last week with big wins in the Avalon League, the Knighton Heath and a successful Challenge Cup. Also another big Team was at Lyme Regis for the Jurassic event.

Well done to all those that assist the Captain and run these events behind the scenes. The Seniors are very fortunate to have such a strong team of 'backroom boys'

Norman is the face of the Challenge Cup who reports :-
Good day yesterday but we won't mention the golf!  Cricket St Thomas have very generous seniors as we raised over £120 towards Mike Light's muscular dystrophy charity.
Mike Light is the man behind the man and inaugurated the Challenge events and negotiates all the venues and deals for us.

Next Week is equally busy with many different events - with the biggest of all on THURSDAY - so please keep reading as we really need YOUR SUPPORT !

  • Monday - Nice little TeXas Scramble at Roll Up- but a WET FORECAST.
  • Tuesday - Friendly against Weymouth down by the Seaside.
  • Wednesday - Texas Scramble again as there is so much 'Serious' Golf around.
  • Wednesday - Avalon League away at The Mendip.
  • Thursday - CLIC Sargent Charity Day - see below....
  • Friday - 3-Ball Stableford, all to count.
  • Friday - Somerset Bowl V Weston at Long Sutton
All The Teams are listed in the various Pages of the Blog.

Thursday 3rd May- Clic Sargent Charity

Such an amazing Charity that supports all those that have to go through the pain of seeing their Children being treated for Cancer - how can we not offer our full support ?

Stuart Pope has been working tirelessly on this one, despite really struggling with his own health - another example of what a group of Men we have.

He has 96 Golfers from 12 Clubs attending a 'Shotgun' event which starts at 09:30 - so if you have a Shotgun Licence, we'd like to hear from you as we don't have a starter yet...

There are sponsored Tees, Charity Auctions, Charity Raffle, donations, spot Prizes etc etc - followed by a slap-up meal in the Marquee.

The Half-Way House will be manned up (by Ladies) and is proving extremely popular. We have a reputation to uphold for the 'Best Cakes  in Somerset' - but we cannot do it without You.

  1. So Request 1 is for some Cakes to be supplied - anything that you can come up with would be much appreciated and will definitely be scoffed. Coffee Cakes, Fruit Cakes, Victoria Sponge, Flapjacks, Millionaire Shortbread, biscuits - so maybe this is one for the Woman behind the Man. We need these ideally on Thursday Morning, but would be happy to take beforehand.
  2. Request 2 is for Raffle Prizes - if we can grab a few ££££ off everyone checking-In then we are off to a flying start - as usual all donations are welcome- but please not the 'Potty Putter' or the Russian Tea-Set again. We are happy to accept Verbal Donations and we will buy prizes for you.
  3. Request 3 is for help on the Day, hopefully the Ladies will be assisting with Registration and Raffle Sales, but I think we are after a few Ball Spotters to keep things moving along as the rough in certain areas seems to capture quite a few errant balls.
I know there is much more going on in the background, with Mick preparing the Cards, Alan the Gazeebo & Bananas & Drinks. BMW will be up there sponsoring as with Katie and her Poundbury 'Hole-in-One' Team.. Another Group will be Gardening around the 10th Hut and The Captain has another 50 tasks in hand.

Last Year - this One Day raised £1,333.51 - but it didn't happen by accident and we need every one of our 160 Members to contribute in some way - thank you for your consideration.
