Friday 27th April
4-Drips Medley
(or let me tell you about my round by JKP)

After an extremely busy week of golf, it was always going to be a bit quiet today. Dickie Hall was shocked just how quiet, as he was pretty much alone for the early parade - so decided to go home and kill something.

Much busier as 09:00 approached and the raindrops peppered the patio. The Captain, Maurice, Keith , Farmer Bob, JKP, Dave Mug, Richard Agar , Cyd, Arran, Bim, Dave, Tom etc - it was just too many to recall here.

After strange looks from Captain, Barrie, Maurice and all those above 60 IQ - it just left the 'Fab Four.

The rain had eased, but the forecast showed just a narrow gap, so we went for it. 9 Holes Canadian Greensomes. Half of Half combined Handicaps.
Dave tossed the coins and we had Mugridge/ Pearce versus Barrow / Agar.

After some clever Maths, we agreed that Bob & Richard would get a 5-shot lead as we played Medal format, so Dave stood on the first Tee already 5 down.

Bob had the best drive and was past the corner for 2, Dave was playing Three from the fairway but 50 yards behind Bob.  Poor approach from Pearce left  them too much to do and Bob made a 6 to go further ahead, 6 Up with 8 to play !!!

Pearce was on the 2nd Green from the Tee and gave Dave a 2 foot putt for a Par, which Bob conceded., as he could only manage a 4 - so we were back to 5 down.

4 great drives on the 3rd, but Dave's 2nd put us just left of green. Richard's approach was long so Bob was putting from off the green. A five was enough to reduce the deficit to 4.

By now the light-rain had stopped and we had a very pleasant next hour or so.

Richard was perfect off 4th Tee, but Bob went OOB so became a spectator.

Dave smashed one passed the bell, but still complained that it was not 'middled'.

Good 2nd from Richard, but Bob put approach left of green in semi- which Richard left short as it splashed through a puddle. Dave putted to 4 feet which John sank for Par and another shot gained.

John was down the middle and short left for 2 on the 5th hole, Bob put Richard 10 feet further away.
Another Par for Dave & John with Bob just 6 inches away..but still a shot gone.

Walked to the 6th just 1 down now and feeling confident, especially as Dave was dead straight, but Bob was close behind.
Dave took a 4-iron from 217 Yards, bounced the Green and slipped off left - which John somehow managed to turn into a Bogey !!!- letting Bob & Richard steal a Half and maintain their lead.

At this point we were tempted to carry on to the 7th..then Dave reminded us of the forecast and we crossed to the 16th - which proved a very clever move as the rain resumed just as we left to drive home and we would have been caught out in the wilderness. Wilderness it was as there was not another souls on the turf.

We stood on the 16th, 1 down and looking to finish off Farmer Bob who was gaining in confidence.
It didn't help when Mr Pearce pulled a 5-iron into the left hedge, with his 8-Handicap Team Mate topping his 7-iron - which ran and ran luckily.

Richard joined John in the hedge but Bob saved the day with a straight one but 20 feet short.

Bob went first and put it to 6 feet. Dave had a simple chip from Pin-High and John was looking forward to a 'Gimmee' - but Dave was Human after all and fluffed the Chip- resulting in a 4 - but was it enough...no it wasn't as Richard sank his Putt for a 3 and Bob & Richard were 2 up with 2 to play - but remember it's Medal, so every stroke counted.

On the Tee at 17th and Bob had the honour. both the High-handicappers messed up once more but Bob & Dave were good and both made the Green in 2. So it was Richard & John to putt. Richard made a great job and put it to within 2-feet which was conceded. John settled down and sank a 5 foot birdie and another shot was claimed.

1 down with 1 to play.

4 good drives were made up towards the Clubhouse. Richard went first and somehow bounced through the bunkers. John went 2nd and hit a 9-iron 2 inches behind the ball, so was well-short.

Farmer Bob had his Golfing Head back on and knew a half would win them the Match, so put a 7 Iron smack into the middle of the 18th Green - but unfortunately the Flag was white and the pin was right at the back.
Dave now had the pressure on him as we had to WIN the hole. He stroked a majestic pitching wedge, pitched 2 feet from the pin and stopped 7 feet away.  Richard had the Barrow Stare as he had to get the putt close, which he did for a simple Par for Bob.
Now came the last stroke of the Day, all or nothing and the nearby Rooks sensed something big was  about to happen...which it did as JKP sank the Putt for  second consecutive Birdie and the Match was halved.- Phew !!

So it was back to the 19th and story -telling.

We heard the news about the new Prince being called Louis and were greeted with Nobby devouring his 11:00 Breakfast, along with Jamie, our ex- assistant Pro.

What a difference in Eating Style.

Bim was in the background bemoaning all the biscuit wrappers and cups lying around.

So there is lots more to add later and I'll do over the weekend, but thought you needed this very brief, unbiased report on our pleasant Roll-Up at our beautiful golf course.
