Valentina's Day
3 Clubs and a Putter

Nick organised Roll-Up and declared "3-Clubs and a Putter" - Unfortunately Mick, Ted, Keith & Geoff thought it meant 1 Club each and someone to Putt, so went out as a 4-ball and were DQ'd.

Chris G went home after re-arranging Friday Tee-Time as he is on Granddad Duties and can't make 08:30 start...
...so two 3-balls went out to combat the rather changeable weather.

Farmer Bob, Roger ( I bowled out Ian Botham) Davis and Mike Hone were in the dream Team with combined handicaps of 40.

Mark Sanders, Martin Leigh and John Pearce were underdogs, with 60 total handicap.

After fierce negotiations that would impress Michel Barnier, the Underdogs managed to get 3 Shots allowance, so the challenge was set.

It really was pretty miserable with an icy wind and rain falling.

Third was typical with an Icy-Pond to negotiate. ..right where Farmer Bob put his Drive.

Pretty close at this stage but the Underdogs were ahead after Bob& Co Bogied the First.

Shock horror as we turned to play the 4th into a real gale and hard to even make that little tree on the right.  Both Teams made Bogey 6.

Par 4 for both on the 5th as Bob picked up a ProV1 in the middle of the fairway, with that wind it
could have come from anywhere. Bob did suggest it was thrown back from the A30, but we all wondered who he  was expecting to park their car, pick up a ball and throw it over the hedge, before continuing their 7 hour trip to Cornwall, maybe it was Santa Bob !

6th was on the back tee and downwind....but it didn't help as 5,5 for both Teams.

Now the Stars flexed their muscles as a Birdy/Birdy run swung the pendulum.  Cries of 'Foul' could be heard as the Flagstick was laid tee-side of the hole by the Underdogs, preventing an Ace. The wind was too strong for it to stand in the hole. We had left it tee-side so they could use backspin more effectively...but did we get any thanks ...no we did not.

A 2 shot swing took place on the 17th, as Underdogs made bogey and Stars had a Three...but Stewards are checking validity as the plastic cup insert was displaced and the ball rested on the edge of the plastic.

So Underdogs 3 Over after 8, with Bob & Co 1 Over.

Up 18th and yet another great Drive by Mark who had put his 3-Rescue low and straight down the middle after recent lessons from Aaron- his 27 Handicap looks rather generous judging by today's play...but we were happy with it !.  Great Chip by Martin , who sunk the Putt for  our 1st Birdie.

Now Bob had it all to do as the rain intensified once more.

An Eagle would level the Scores and take the Win by virtue of the Back-4.5.....
Mike's Drive selected and no-one put it dead, so it was a 20 foot putt back from Main Green.  Plenty of OOOOHs & AAAAAHs but no Cigar as a Par 4 was carded .

£12 on this chip Mike.....

It got quite warm so JKP stayed out to welcome the Stars

37 Gross for Bob against a 38  for the Underdogs, but the 3-shot allowance was then deducted and the destination of the £12.00  Kitty was decided.

Easter Egg Pile is Growing nicely, thanks for the additions, all going to Children's Hospice South West..40 Days of Lent to add your donation.

News from Ray Gudge about Ian Griffiths:-

Hi Ray

Great to hear from you. Had the op in Exeter Nuffield on Thursday home Saturday morning. My backswing is slightly restricted but with time it will be like yours.

The weather is not on your side at the moment it will be lovely in the summer. Hope to see you all then give them my regards.

Cheers
Ian

...and now I need your help...I have been coerced into running the 'Pub Quiz' up at CST on Thursday as Simon can't make it.  I can do Quiz OK but could sure use a score keeper to help out...just to add up scores on sheets ( they mark them)  - so we can keep a running total.
Male of Female, young or old - just need you from 20:00 to about 22:00 ..
..can anyone help. Will even buy you a free Carvery Meal if you want to come up earlier, around 19:30.. Many Thanks   - John Pearce   07752 429467.
..My normal sidekick, Diana has a WI Meeting.
