Winter League (8th and last round)– 14th March 2016

Most found the conditions quite difficult today as the wind was variable and the greens have become much quicker. That’s enough of the excuses as it was a beautiful day and there are much worse places to be than Cricket St Thomas Golf Course.
The workers are busy on the Tees as you can see on the new 2nd Tee.

Two early pairs set the pace and left the rest trailing although Frank, the dynamic duo of Branchflower and Hilson almost triumphed again on the day's play. The leaders, Roger Stone and John MacOmish, clearly knew that they would not be caught and finished 12th on the day.

Handicap reductions will apply to the winner – 2 shots, and the runner up – 1 shot.

Please Note, 6 Individuals had permission to take available slots between roll-ups. Another 4 then went straight from Car to Tee without checking and joined the queue...so 2 three-balls and a four-ball squeezed into a 15 minute gap, ignoring a booked 2-ball (09:06)  by quickly placing a ball on the tee about 09:04 and all 4 squeezing in. This in my mind was pretty selfish and likely to get the Seniors into trouble. Fortunately, after a gentle 'prod' the 4-ball stood aside on the 3rd and allowed the booked 2-ball to play through - but we must respect other Golfers and not abuse the generous allowance the Seniors get with our Tee Times 3 times per week. Remember Your Etiquette !
(JKP Rant, apologies to Captain for kidnapping his report)

Early Birds were very respectful as 4 past Captains passed by...

..but Gordon couldn't wait to tell us about Brian's Tee-Shot on the 6th that landed 12 inches from the pin....but unfortunately, via a nearby tree it was the 5th Green !

Wednesday’s competition is an Irish Waltz. The rules are not quite as Irish as published on the programme (now updated). It should read 3 to score on the first hole, 2 to score on the second hole and 1 to score on the third hole repeating that scoring sequence. The programme on the notice board has been amended.

During the period of Winter Rules, Seniors have been permitted to mark their ball in the rough, lift and clean the ball, and then drop the ball. A number of members have been observed taking advantage of this relaxation of the rules by :

1. dropping the ball more than once. If you lift your  ball from a divot and drop it back into the same  divot, then you may not lift and drop again.

2. placing the ball. You must drop the ball.

3. dropping the ball in front of where it was picked up. Your ball must not be nearer the hole.

There are other circumstances when you must be very careful about lifting and dropping and these will be published before next winter.

If you are unsure of the rules, please consult your playing partners, otherwise, if you are observed deliberately bending the rules, you will be disqualified.

Please note, if Winter Rules are still in place when the Master series is played in April, the dispensation for Seniors to lift, clean and drop will NOT apply.

Hopefully you will have all seen the note from Tess on Car Parking this week.

A quick reminder that parking will be swapping between our front and back carparks a bit this week
.  We have had a change of plan somewhat so the definitive plan is;

Tomorrow (Tuesday) please park in the front car park - this is to allow tarmac to be laid on the access roads.

Wednesday and Thursday - all change and please park in the rear car park - tarmac being laid and white lines being drawn in the front.

There will be a number of bollards guiding you so don't panic!
