3 February 2016

Wednesday 3rd February - 3 Ball Stableford 1,2,3 on Holes

Another very healthy turnout of 39 players, 18 Holes Open and just 2 Temporaries.
Couple of nippy showers early on, but felt quite cold. Warmed up quite a bit but the wind had swung around to the North making different holes quite tricky.

The most impressive shot of the day was Bill Hilson on the first, who kept his drive safe by gently nudging it to the front of the tee - although in his defence he claims it was a gust of wind and not his £299 Driver.

We also had a few 'Stars' up there with the latest round of the Daily Mail Ladies Pairs, and Yeovil Ladies being hosted by our own Ladies and caddies in attendance.

Not too much can be said about the winners today who were well clear of the challenge by Frank Martin (and his new BMW X3) and Devious Desmond who likes to play the game the hard way, such as the 3rd, where his 2nd shot was in the L/H gully, chipped to the left of the green and sank a 20 foot put- which he then repeated on 8th from off the green, then 12th for a birdie and 18th for another birdie after driving under the trees.

All cards looked perfect today and no errors, after pep-talk from Captain.

Usual cuts for First & Second.

After a week of asking, Richard Hall finally claimed the posh 'Pitch-Repairer'. Gordon Bareham was pleased to be united with his R/H glove which he had dropped in the Car Park, but unfortunately by this time had also lost the L/H one on the first 4 holes.

Friday sees the next round of the Winter League and we have a 'reasonable' chance of playing it as the forecast has improved, but we won't know definitely until Roll-Up.

Greenstaff were out replacing all those roofing sheets that currently cover our Hose connections with very smart looking proper drain covers that look like inverted Re-Cycling Bins.

The more observant of you will have noticed the lines delineated in front of the Marquee, where a seated & fenced-off patio area is being built and the path to 1st /4th etc will be moved to back of practice area and players leaving 4th will emerge behind those teeing off on 1st - which makes a lot of sense to me.

Great to see Mike Light up there today looking slimmer & wiser and off the booze. Thinks he will be back playing with us now his health has improved and he's arranged some help for Grace.
