Canadian Greensomes – 19th February 2016

With a forecast of rain by 12:30, the captain ensured that he would escape the downpour by drawing himself out in the first pairing. In the event, everyone played in the dry and the course was in wonderful condition considering the amount of rain I am assured has fallen in recent weeks – pleased I missed it all.

Today we played a Canadian Greensomes which, of course, is scored Stableford. A number of pairs scored it as a Medal but our indomitable scrutineer adjusted those cards. Despite a very clear instruction by the Captain about format, handicaps etc, Alan Davis was overheard to say to his partner on the first tee “Do you want to play Medal or Stableford” to which John Pearce threw in “Where’s the Yellow Ball?”
bit of mental arithmetic to start the day...

Peter Spencer Farr and Richard Hall made their shots count on the last three holes beating Alan Chance and Maurice Arnold on count back into the much sought after third place. Runaway winners by a country mile were Ron Sutherland and Danny Dowell who won by 8 shots.

The winners will be cut two shots and the runners up 1 shot for the next two weeks.

There were 10 birdies each worth £1.70 per team.

Frank Martin played the Rolling Stableford and scored 33 points.

Greenkeepers are still working away at new paths and rumour control says the tarmac for new entrance and front car park will be here in 14 days. Rear park will be gravel.

As we left, the Morfitt twins were tutt-tutting about the noise Jackie & her ladies skittles team were making playing pool, awaiting the coach for the weekend to Weymouth. The coach, which had started picking up skittlers from the Midlands, finally arrived and Mr M beamed...until he heard the patter of not so tiny feet coming up the steps and 50 more entered for a wee 'pit stop' as we all crept out the back way sniggering...
